Mental. We have/had a weakness in terms of coaching, and have seen an opportunity to improve output from set pieces. In a league of fine margins I don’t see how anyone (but Danny Murphy) could argue against bringing in a specialist.

Think it’s the other team you are underestimating. Brighton were a striker away from being a really good side last year. Their xG said they should have been way higher, but they couldn’t score. They’ve strengthened, too, and I think they will be the surprise package. They’ll batter a few teams this year.

I don’t know why people are losing their shit, right now we’re in the same league position we finished last year. And if you read the paragraph above, and dismiss it by saying ‘the league means nothing after one game’, remember that argument works both ways.

It bothers me slightly, but again, DS does not arrange friendlies. DS does not undertake HR or deal with player liaison. He is not responsible for arranging flights, arranging player relocation, etc etc. You are also making an assumption regarding the injuries result from poor physical preparation, when they could be the result of a whole host of other reasons. I think some people assume that because he's our head coach DS is involved in every aspect of the club. That may have been more the case in the past when things were less professional, but DS is a Head Coach, who works with a DoF, and a host of behind the scenes staff who Dean has no control over hiring/firing, I think it's pretty harsh to throw shade at DS for what is a collaborative effort.

As this has been discussed over and over again this week, could I ask what part you think Dean Smith could have done better. Injuries? Covid? International Competition? Losing best player? Buying players late? Which?

Also, did we just buy Chuk 2 to keep Chuk 1 from moving elsewhere? Or is he actually any good. I have genuinely never seen Chuk 2 kick a ball.

I’d like to see him near the first team asap, really. I rate him, but I’d like to see him get game time soon. It’s not like the other midfielders are playing well enough to prevent us looking at alternatives.

If they are decent coaches I’d be for that. We’ve lost a defensive coach in JT, and if Mellberg can get across some of his bearded goodness to the players he might be a good replacement. I hope we go for whoever has the best track record in this area.

I agree to some degree, but the players also need to take responsibility for that shitshow. They were outfought.
