Russia and its “Special Operation” in Ukraine
Hobsons Choice replied to maqroll's topic in Off Topic
If you do that you remove any barrier to escalation. I.e 'might as well do what we want, what else can they do to us?' -
Yeah, nobody wants that, what I'm saying is that there is less than no motivation to do anything else. Why would you develop youth talent that the next manager or manager after that is going to benefit from. It would not be SGs priority and I don't blame him. If we're impatient as fans and as a club ever will it be thus.
-
He wouldn't be if he read this thread, no one would. Fans want stuff NOW. Or you get the boot. why would you try and build a legacy.
-
It's not no matter what though. It's not like it's been disastrous. Not even giving a season or a chance in the transfer market is proposterous. That is the type of crap that gets you relegated. 3 managers between Feb 2015 and March 2016 is how you get relegated.
-
Sack the manager without having a summer window to actually build a team and develop a playing philosophy? What a load of nonsense short termism.

Nice reference! -
No I think that Serie A is the 4th best league in the world. I also think that Tammy has scored 26 Premier League Goals in 89 games whilst playing an average of 55 minutes per game.

I'm an Environmental Scientist. I've had exactly those kind of views thrown at me regarding climate change for 20 years. Honestly it's mega depressing. Apparently I've been part of some global conspiracy for all this time, falsifying evidence and just generally shitting on the fact that the world is flat, aliens visit rednecks in Texas, and there is some kind of illuminati-type organisation running the world. In reality people are dumb, scared, angry, greedy and prejudiced. Those criteria account for 99.9% of all decisions made everyday across the planet. -
Well, yeah. I actually don't think our strikers are the problem. Looking at our xG stats, we have scored 42 goals against an xG of 33. I'd say that means were pretty efficient when we do get a sniff of goal.

That's a post by Matt Le Tissier? What an absolute tosspot of the first order. -
Point is he's not a championship player. If he came back here, he'd go to a mid table prem side. It's a reasonable discussion. Who might we have lined up who's tearing it up in world football, and who would come to a Villa side who's not in Europe? I think if he didn't already play for us Ings would be in the mix. I'm struggling to think. I like Antonio but West Ham are doing better than us right now. Toney at Brentford, but everyone seems to have cooled on him at the moment. I suppose Suarez with the SG connection, but I hope to Christ that doesn't come off, as he's the womblest of cocks. I'd probably give Tammy a punt. He did well at Chelsea when he did play, despite being bombed out for seemingly no reason.

Eh? He's scored 15 in 30 in Serie A this season, and that's in a Mourinho side. Championship player?

Totally agree. Kante at Chelsea allows the likes of Havertz and Mount to get away with very little defensive responsibility. They looked rubbish without him against Brentford.

All fair points. That's the thing about a good commanding DM though. He lets everyone else f**k off up the other end and hurt the opposition. When you have a good one, you only need one (cue kenneth).

I see where you are going, but I just don't see goals in that system. We'd control the ball, but our width would be from full backs which would mean our wide men would be deeper than conventional wingers, and would not have anyone to cross to. We would have to play through the middle every time, which means the opposition could just pack out the defensive midfield, and we'd have no options. When false nines are used in a front 3 it's because the wide men operate as inside forwards and make a beeline for the box every time the F9 gets the ball. They are effectively strikers in all but name , but coming from a wide position on a diagonal trajectory. With wing backs, we'd have no-one anywhere near the box, unless they break through the centre, which would be easy to counter. A Burnley tactic would spank us every single time. In fairness we probably have the personnel to operate a front three with a false 9. We just don't play them at the moment.

I don't mean he marauds forward. He'd be a temporary DM. A DM who is in general more defensive than a Midfielder.

Would a 5-3-2-0 not just be a defensive/squished 5-3-2? I'm happy with a strikerless system using a false 9 in a front 3, but I am not sure I understand how a 5-3-2-0 would work. Happy to be convinced.

That would be Chambers stepping out of the back 3 or tracking back with the opposition 10

I thought of that but in the light of everyone having a minor fit at the use of two No. 10's I thought I'd leave it.

Fair. Just thought I'd start a discussion. I've said it before, but it would mitigate the defensive issues we have in midfield. Might screw our attack up, but just throwing it out there

Why not, with a stepping up CB/DM in Chambers, you take some of the defensive work away from the midfield. Maybe drop either luiz or Mcginn, but either way play them further up. Play Cout and/or Buendia a little deeper in Midfield to accommodate the two up top, or alternatively either play one of Cout or Emi2 and have a hybrid midfielder in like Sanson, who is comfortable a bit deeper.
