One problem as I see it with all electorates, is that they constantly overestimate how easy it is for a leader to make progress on social issues, and they constantly underestimate how much damage a motivated nutcase in charge can do to the fabric of society.
This is why we get folks like Milei, Le Pen, Trump et al voted for by otherwise right minded people who want to 'shake things up', not realising that 'shaking things up' means catastrophic damage to freedoms, economic and social systems, and the environment, progress on which has been hard fought and hard won.
It's worth remembering that most freedoms take decades if not centuries to win, but can be lost in an afternoon.
