  1. And despite this, nearly a third of people polled on this forum alone, people whose kids are going to be killed by the effects of climate change, despite reams of evidence to the contrary don't even think it's an anthropogenic effect. The world is absolutely f**ked. I feel like screaming at people engaged in any other political subject 'What's the f**king point if we're all destroyed by Climate Change'. It should be the 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority of everyone on earth.
  2. I'd rather not have Man City or Liverpool first game. Despite it being a free hit a section of the fans will turn on SG which will make things very difficult during the first couple of months.
  3. It's interesting seeing this, mainly because when I grew up everything was based on a 4-4-2. I'm not saying I disagree with it, it makes more sense given current tactics and I use those numbers myself now, but when I grew up 9 and 10 were both strikers, 11 and 7 were wingers, and 6 and 8 were both CMs. The most you would say about the roles of the Central midfield pairing would be that one would be a box to box, or a 'midfield general' (which I'm sure was a euphemism for being a bit of a dirty B'tard). It's a lot more nuanced now. That said......it says 'soccer' on your drawing. Bleurgh.
  4. The former player? He was a bloke from coventry back in the day who looked like the front man from Suede and had resting moaning b**ch face.
  5. If we do that I think McGinn has to go. Would that be a 4-3-2-1? Unless Coutinho and Buendia go wide, it's gonna be awful congested in the middle. To do that SG will have to commit to playing wide forwards. Brings Bailey and Bertie back into the equasion, perhaps?
  6. That's what I was getting at. Ramsey and Coutinho as competition in the 10 role.
  7. I get where you are coming from. We haven't played wide forwards much though, particularly in the last few games. We sort of have two 10s in Buendia and Coutinho. 10's in that they play very narrow for wide players (or wide for ACMs).
  8. Would we drop McGinn and or Dougie to accommodate a new 8? My initial reaction to signing Kamara was that we could push Dougie up to fulfil just the hybrid role discussed, which to my mind he is best at. If we get a new 8, Dougie and Sanson have to go imo.
  9. I think the question mark in the above is Coutinho?
  10. You expecting another DCM then? My feeling (based on absolutely nothing), is that with Kamara and Nakamba in, we were never in the running for Bissouma, and that SG will leave the Midfield as is, with McGinn and Luiz (if he stays) fighting for the No. 8 spot. Of course if Dougie goes, we will get someone else.
  11. Fair enough. FWIW my gut feeling is that there is more performance to unlock with him.
  12. Also worth pointing out that a lot of teams operate systems where the main goal threat is from the wing/outside forwards, so players like Salah (who incidentally also failed to achieve his xG) and Mane (who did) could be considered as forwards for the purpose of this exercise, although we don't operate that kind of system, so I doubt those are the kinds of players we will be looking to recruit.
  13. No, whether or not you achieve, exceed, or fall short of your xG is a good measure of finishing. The actual xG itself (ie how low or high it is) tells you the number of chances that someone is getting. a low xG could be a sign of a limited striker who is not creating, but it could also show that the team as a whole is not providing those chances. It therefore can't be used as a metric to judge the quality of a striker as a whole. For instance a player whose sole role is to put the ball in the net can get a low overall xG if his team is not very creative, but he could match or exceed his xG because he is a good finisher, or alternatively you could have a player who contributes to the team, enabling more goals to be scored (say a false 9), who gets low xG stats. It is, however a reasonable metric when it comes to pure finishing- ie. taking the chances you are given.
  14. Well this is it really, I was just making the point that Ollie is not as terrible a finisher as some would believe.
  15. Ollie's actual goals were almost identical to his xG, which kind of dispels the image of him as a wasteful striker. To give some perspective, strikers that have failed to meet their xG, and could therefore be considered more wasteful include: Aubameyang Havertz Calvert Lewin Jesus Sterling Antonio and surprisingly Kane. Son appeared to have been much more effective at converting the chances he was presented this year in the Spurs lineup. If we get our strikers more chances by sorting out the Midfield, which hopefully we are on the way to doing, we WILL score more goals with our current strikeforce. I have no doubt whatsoever. As an aside, in looking up the above, of note was that Jamie Vardy, as annoying a cockwomble as he is, remains one of the most effective finishers in the Premier League, far outstripping his expected tally.
  16. My feelings are that our CBs are now most in need of upgrade.
  17. Do you think SG rates him, though? DS clearly did, but at this stage I don't think Stevie is gonna give him minutes.
