  1. Not really, he's got decent progression stats despite being largely used as a 6. Granted his ball winning as a 6 is not brilliant, but I think a few of us have been asking for him to be relieved of those duties as they aren't his natural game.
  2. I think Westwood, and Progressive Actions are mutually exclusive terms.
  3. In fairness, I've only seen him once, but he looked decent.
  4. Allan is a surprise, given how absolute turd Everton are at the moment. Bennacer is pretty tasty.
  5. As they should. Seldom do good managers micromanage in almost any business. It's about building and retaining a good team. That's what management is all about really.
  6. Yeah, tactics can on a given day allow a rubbish team to win, or a good team to lose, but ultimately the strength of players will tell. I do think that in a game of fine margins though, tactics are pretty important. They can make a good team brilliant.
  7. It's like Pique. Who the f**k cheats on Shakira? I can't even understand it.
  8. It's a continuum, innit.
  9. I'm perhaps a little more hot on it than you, but I see your point, and agree that it's by no means a magic bullet. For me it just boils down to making sure that the right players are in the right place at the right time, enabling their personal characteristics to be utilised. Sometimes their personal characteristics are lacking, and that too is another side of the game. It kind of reminds me when I first 'got' American Football. When I first realised that the ball is just a marker, and the game is really about territory. Gaining and holding ground. Football is to some degree the same, it's about space, and time. If your tactics win your players space and time in the right areas, the football stuff kind of looks after itself.
  10. I mean, whilst we at times criticise his tactical naivety, the fact that he has brought good players in to address the areas we all knew needed addressing suggests he's not tactically clueless, right? There have been times when I've wondered that about some of his predecessors.
  11. Also, to quote on another point here, the second part, I guess one question you could ask is whether it is reasonable (and again I'm not getting at you specifically here, because you were explaining a viewpoint) to expect (not want, or hope for, but expect) consistently excellent performances throughout the season. Obviously the minimum we would expect is that the team gives it 100% effort, but sometimes, and for numerous, unfathomable reasons you get performances that are off. Whether or not this is due to lack of effort, I would suggest, is very difficult for us supporters (and probably tricky for managers) to confirm even if it looks that way to outsiders. Is it not possible to just accept that as humans, regardless of how much they are getting paid, the level of consistency demanded by fans is unattainable? The Man Cities of this world achieve it by having ability to spare, so that on their worst day the players are able to win. That and quality reserves to take over when there is a dip in form in the first 11. Do the supporters of the rest of the mortal clubs not have to accept that they (including us) aren't in that place right now? To some degree we have to hold our hands up to opposition and say 'fair play, you beat us fair and square today', whilst supporting those who are working to make us improve, so that we get back at them next time. To my mind the quality of us as supporters is judged not when things are going well, but when they are not, and if we agree that we can influence things on the pitch, the way that we can try to achieve the consistency we all want is to get behind the team, even if they are 'shit'. That may be how we level off the dips in form, and elevate our results. We as fans also need to look at ourselves, and how we can improve.
  12. I get that. The original post talked about not wanting the manager to have success, ergo Villa not having success. Whether or not in reality that is a view many (or any) people have, imo it's an awful, spiteful viewpoint that does no one any good. I've said on here before how I really did not want Suarez to come here because of his attitude and personality, but if he had signed I'd be mad to actively want him to f**k up, because it would mean Villa were losing.
  13. OK, let me rephrase. If you want Villa to lose because you hate someone in charge, then you can bugger off. (Not you per se as I know you were only saying you understood the logic). The key part of this is the 'wanting Villa to lose'.
  14. Haha. Let's shoot at our own water supply for a laugh.
  15. If SG loses, Villa lose. I can't understand a Villa 'supporter' actively wanting Villa to lose to make a point. They can bugger off and 'support' one of our rivals. It would actually help us. I'm not sure if Stevie will succeed at Villa, but I sure as hell hope he does. It means we're winning.
  16. Yorke is the only correct answer here, right? Regardless of what happened after he was frigging immense for us.
  17. Club equity has increased by at least a factor of 4 since they took over. They are doing alright without the shirt money.
  18. To summarise, you'd be concerned about the lack of activity, if it were not for the activity?
  19. Was gonna say that. If we get another cb without selling, I think we're going 3 at the back.
  20. I think we should definitely keep him as cover. Despite his limitations, we struggled so severely last season with him out of the side against teams with a physical presence in the centre. At the very least he's squad cover, and if Tim edges him out, all the better and we can sell in January. Right now there are so many ifs (whether Kamara hits the ground running, whether Tim can consistently show his worth on the big stage, what if we get an injury to Kamara). If any of those scenarios (obviously additional incomings notwithstanding) occur and Marv is not around, it's a potential season killer.
