  1. We just lost a third of our goals. Ings scored the decisive goal to win 3 games this season, and draw a 4th. That's 10 points. With goal difference adjusted that would put us currently 16th. So as I say, with this squad, minus Danny and even with Emery's undoubted tactical quality, I don't believe the second coming of Alex Ferguson spliced with Nigel Clough would get us to 8th. If he does it would be an almost miraculous feat. And that's if we don't get any injuries.
  2. Emery is brilliant but he can only work with the tools at his disposal, and this squad hasn't scored nearly enough league goals for top 8. We're one injury away from an unproven 19 year old being our main and only strike force. I'm actually OK with that, but if you have an expectation of results, we need to strengthen. That's not bedwetting, or whatever uncalled for verb you choose to use, it's pragmatism.
  3. In fairness that's 2 players from a squad of 25. There are always exceptions. Look at the players the top teams are attracting (ie Mudryk). If it is to be believed (and obviously there is a huge pinch of salt involved here) several of our ambitious targets have turned us down. I think mostly the links are nonsense, but I would expect at least a flicker of flame where there is smoke.
  4. Tell me, what are your expectations for the rest of the season.
  5. Yeah, I'm coming around to this, but the big disparity on here seems to be between those who think we should push for Europe this year, and get bods in now, and those wanting to wait. Not a bad idea in principle, and I have nothing specifically against that approach, but I do wonder how patient our top players (I'm thinking Emi here) are going to be with it. In a way his World Cup antics may have worked in our favour here, because some of the top teams might think there is an attitude issue with him, potentially reducing demand. Obviously we all know he's just a baller who just wears his emotions on his sleeve.
  6. Car production in the UK down to it's lowest level since 1956. Going well, isn't it. And absolutely no one, ever, at all totally didn't see this coming. Americans about to massively subsidise electric vehicle manufacture, undermining our position in the green tech sector. Man this country is f***ed.
  7. You have to do both realistically. The development of youth is crucial to long term success, but the fanbase at a club like Villa would not permit short term failure while we wait for their development. No-one would last long enough at the helm to implement it. So you have to spend to enable short term success also.
  8. Because he f***ed the dog and now has to get rid?
  9. I think another aspect to this that no one has discussed yet is the impact on development of existing players if we don't sign anyone else. It means we'll probably have to play our first team in every match for the rest of the season, barring a few midfield changes. Will this lead to additional fatigue, injury and hampering of development? Will we use youth players way off the pace of PL football, and will that hamper their physical and psychological development? I don't know but it seems reasonable to me to ask the question.
  10. Not even youtube has any clips him playing for us. And there are clips of me brushing my teeth on YouTube.
  11. It's a weird question though really, because generally you go into the loan market for backups and squad depth, so unless they really exceed expectations, they are never going to play much. Unless there is an option to buy.
  12. Reading this I was thinking 'Michael Bradley played for Villa?'. I think that says everything. I'd concur with Drinkwater as worst, as he not only managed to be awful on the field, but had an attitude that stank like The Sty at low tide.
  13. It's quite good this year I thought.
  14. Yeah, that's fair. I think it's clear Danny is a very good footballer, just didn't suit us.
  15. Can they update stats on the fly, and would they do it on the basis of transfer profile or would they wait to see him play? It would be pretty weird for a 59 rated player to turn out every week for a Premier League team, and if he starts scoring, even more so.
  16. I mean getting yourself injured to slow the game down is probably not a strategy that will work in the long term.
  17. Mudryk is top banana. I really hope he’s injured or suspended when they next play us. He'll tear Ash or Cash a flaming new one.
  18. I don't think it matters too much. Best players in the world at City, and Manchester is a f**king s**t hole.
  19. Levy is like one of those cocks who swoops in and ruins it when you are trying to buy a house. You wish you could have 5 minutes with them in a room without windows.
  20. Ah, now, that's your ambivalent bid. You act all casual, fax it off, go and have a cup of coffee, talk to a temp at the watercooler BUT.........you are conflicted. Deep down you are thinking 'What if i'm too early??, will people think i'm being laissez faire? What if I'm too late? Will people think I'm panicking? Oh god I should have waited until the 23rd!!!'
  21. As long as it occurs before the transfer window SLAMS and/or CRASHES and or gurgles and/or pathetically farts closed.
  22. Why the 23rd, is that a solstice or equinox or something? What if we casually sauntered into the office of our No.1 target on the 26th, and said 'Hey, baby, fancy playing for Villa, sweetcheeks'?
