  1. That's exactly what I was thinking of when I tried it.
  2. I went shopping yesterday, and bought (among many other things) some cured sausage. I'm partial to salami, chorizo, garlic sausage etc, so I thought I'd go one further and bought some 'Fuet'- air dried catalan sausage (thanks for variety, Lidl). Imagine my annoyance when I got home, took a little slice and found out that it smells very strongly of....ahem gentleman's relish. Not super happy. Edit- let's not beat around the bush (haha)- sperm. It smells of sperm.
  3. Buy them off with prawn sandwiches. (whisper it, but I do love a prawn sandwich).
  4. They don't need to be popular. Barca, Juve et al will jump at the chance to create a Super League. It's what they've been wanting to balance the books for ages. As an aside, I wonder if that factored into the Alemany decision? Has he been told something?
  5. There won't be any significant punishment. They will threaten to leave to create a super league, spin it to their own supporters as us vs them, so they will go along with it. PL will eat s*** and back down, or give them a 1 point deduction or something. City are too rich and too powerful to be punished in any meaningful way.
  6. As a new convert to this sport, still learning all the rules, but fascinated by it's ethos, I'd like to give this the old bumperoonie. Any takers? I have family in Brisbane, so when looking around for a team to get behind I was delighted to see that Brisbane not only play in colours similar to Villa, but the are also the Lions. Sounds like fate to me.
  7. Gabby was very limited, but it was a good superpower. I also remember him being the most frustrating player. But running really fast in a straight line, forget about it.
  8. Lime Starburst Blackcurrant Starburst Lemon Starburst
  9. It's the off season in 2000. The year before we finished 6th in the league despite our strike force consisting of a tenacious but aging Dion Dublin, and a pacey, instinctive, but ultimately limited Julian Joachim. It's time to step up and put the club where it should be. One of the top teams, forever and in perpetuity. We turned to a player with international credibility. A player who scored 110 goals in 164 matches for PSV, who had played in the Champions League the previous season, and who had been capped 54 times for Belgium. A cultured technical player that you might see at Arsenal, or Liverpool. I give you..Luc Nilis He's the last piece in the puzzle. The offensive weapon to match the stubborn defence we already have. We all know what happened next. He scored on his Villa debut in the intertoto Cup. He scored on his league debut against Chelsea. And then we knew we could compete against the big boys. Two games later against Ipswich, after a quiet first half, Luc scored a brace, which was the catalyst for a run of 8 games unbeaten. He finishes with 19 league goals, firing Villa to 3rd, and Europe. The next few years Villa consolidated, using our European qualification to attract talent from France and Spain, which led in 2007 to Villa's first league title since 1981. And the rest, as they say is history. (Dion Dublin was our top scorer in 2000-2001 with 9 goals in 35 games. Despite that, because of our stubborn defence we finish 8th, but never quite capitalise on our opportunity)
  10. That's amongst the most terrifying things I've ever seen.
  11. We all know what zig-a-zig-ah means. (i know that was a different song, don't step on my nostalgic fancying the pants off Emma Bunton)
  12. This just made me laugh like a drain. Newsflash!
  13. And people thinking 'Born in the USA' by Springsteen is patriotic.
  14. The thing about comedy is that it tells us where the boundaries are, and does it in a way that is (when done well) benign. Most of the comics themselves don't have the same views they express on stage, they are mostly just exaggerating to push the limits. I love South Park. Those guys take the p*** out of everyone and let the chips fall. I went to watch Team America when it came out with a guy who I used to know who is pretty bigoted (we're not friends now, he turned out to be a hardcore right wing conspiracy nut), and we both came out of the same show with totally different ideas about what we'd seen. I saw a proper p***take of America causing havok around the world. He saw right wing propaganda. Unfortunately kids would likely miss the tongue-in-cheek part of it (much like my former friend did).
  15. Not a problem, bud. Just engaging in debate. Hopefully I didn't come across as preachy. I don't mean to be. The whole thing just pisses me off. I hope you are right, but unfortunately I think there are always folk who, as a majority, will want to shit on a minority, whether it be down to race, or other characteristics. (some) People=shit. And you are right about the kids. There is no bigotry in them. My kids have never even mentioned race or disability once, and we were dreading having to have 'the talk'. Edit- I didn't think you were sneering anyway, I just took it that you were pointing out that some do.
  16. It's well argued, but I disagree entirely on a number of points. You seem to be suggesting that society was moving on from a historic legacy of Racism, and that before BLM we were heading toward a state of multiracial harmony. This demonstrably was not true. Racially motivated hate crime in the UK was higher prior to BLM (which started in 2013), and decreased by around 30% after it (see Crime Statistics for England and Wales below). Secondly, yes it's easy to sneer and say racists are thick/idiots, but it's also easy to sneer at university educated folk, as you have demonstrated, dismissing them as 'brainwashed lefties'. That was not my experience of university, which was not particularly left wing, and valued critical thinking. At the end of the day the reason that racists are cast as idiots is that it's a point of view that clearly has no intellectual merit. It doesn't take a genius, or a university educated mind to see that racism is stupid, pointless and wrong. It's not a leap to suggest that it's proponents are the same. To me, saying 'don't be a dick' and taking the knee are just two means to an end- trying to educate casual racists that their viewpoint is without merit, and showing support for the real victims here. As a white man, it's not my business telling the victims of racism what form that support should take. If taking the knee means something to those experiencing racism, it's good enough for me, and it also seems understandable that those invested in racist ideologies want to attack that symbol. Edit- I wasn't including you in that last bit btw.
  17. Yes! that would be fantastic, and a good way to settle the campers before the new kit launch next, which knowing us will be next February. I can't wait to see it in action. It's so much better.
  18. Taking 5 seconds to support the disenfranchised. Not killing us to do that is it? If it helps we could change it to a tannoy announcement saying 'don't be a racist dick'. The form it takes is irrelevant. I like the knee, and if it gives even one black family in the stands the slightest bit of solidarity and comfort, then it's well worth it. The 'all lives matter' folks have missed the point so, so badly.
  19. The fact that our players aren't prissy prima donnas might help. That's why I've said before that personality will form a big part of our recruitment this summer, not just ability.
  20. Not sure he needs upgrading but he needs support imo. He will, like any strikers go through purple patches and difficult patches. As a team we need options when he is below par. Not a slight on him, it happens to everyone.
  21. Also, on a side note can anyone tell me how the hell Suella Braverman is a Buddhist? I don't think I've ever before heard of a buddhist who's values can be summed up by the phrase 'pull up the drawbridge, i'm ok thank you very much'.
