Not the same for me. There's always been women singers. I think it's a product of being a child of the punk era. Sure there weren't as many but Patti Smith, Poly Styrene, SIouxsie would have been a starting point, then Pauline Black and Clare Grogan through quite a few more to Tania Donnelly and the gang, Bjork and onwards. Sure there were more male singers in the collection but there just were more male singers at the time but it was never down in the 10% female percentile. In fact I think I was more prepared to listen if it was a female singer than a male
You think? Here's a whole double album of them from my collection. Its a great compilation, good jumping off point
What's that saying about jazz being the teacher and funk being the preacher?

Well in a similar vein as above, I'm currently listening to this compilation CD (contains Marvin Gaye, Dionne Warwick, Chairman of the Board and 20 more)
Say A Little Prayer, political? You betcha, Hal David was really pleased to get that one past the radio station censors twice within a year

You think the Labour should campaign on being lax with criminals and will hit peoples income too?
Being tough on crime has absolutely nothing to do with Neo-liberalism, privatizing the criminal justice system would be neo-liberalism but I see no evidence of that here
Labour and most left parties have never been particularly socially liberal being more about the controlling people for the collective greater good. Labour isnt and never has been a party of individual freedom as that has very little to do with any left political thinking
Being tough on crime is entirely consistent with a party on the left
Only announced today but resigned some time ago. It may even have been them that precipitated this, they would have a legal duty to report financial misconduct
A Jon Savage Punk Compilation - England's Dreaming
25 tracks, includes proto stuff like Iggy & the Stooges and the Electric Eels, lots of stuff I haven't heard, early Cabaret Voltaire, Brian Eno and Snatch, The Residents (with Beatles samples) as well as staples like Sioxsie, X-Ray Spex, Adverts etc
Quite a few you'd imagine, the only mistake is releasing the first of the series about child sexual exploitation. If that had been later in the series of Top Trumps you'd imagine the reaction would be entirely different
Just bought this on CD, Count Ossie and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari - Tales of Mozambique
Count Ossie was the first artist to commit Nyahbinghi drumming to record and this is considered a classic. Definitely channeling Sun Ra here
Pic is for the vinyl, I'm playing the CD
That's quite the argument to be having on Russian State TV, it's not the regime coming to an end that is the story in that clip really, it's that he stated that things wouldn't be blowing up in Russia or that Russian cities wouldn't be being shelled if it wasn't for Russia's own actions in starting the Special Military Operation. That went a lot further than I've seen before on a Moscow talking heads show
Erm Ari Ups Mother too. She was a really interesting and undersung character in the original London squat/punk scene. Like a mother figure to the likes of The Clash and the Sex Pistols. Pre-punk she was also involved with Jimi Hendrix, WIshbone Ash and Yes amongst others. She was a media Heiress, I think she inherited over $100 million dollars when her dad died, he was one of the owners of Der Spiegel also her first husband was a Slager Singer of some note in Germany.
