  1. I like Elliot Smith but that is a spectacularly unimaginative cover of a spectacularly dull B**tles dirge
  2. I have 31 from the ROlling Stones list (which is a shite list IMO 97. Arctic Monkeys 94. Arcade Fire 92. Yazoo 88. Violent Femmes 86. Killers 19. The Smiths 73. Pink FLoyd 67. Jeff Buckley 65. 3. Basil, Bay Tree, Marjoram, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Tarragon, Sage, French Parsley, Basil Mint and Chives plus a Blueberry bush. If you want the full array
  4. Another one of those bands that should have made it but didn’t. Always part of the same Eric's scene as the Bunnymen et al but didn't manage to get an album out until 1988 This isn’t from that original period. Paul Simpson put together a new incarnation of the band around 2010 and this version includes Les Pattinson (Bunnymen) on Bass and Mike Mooney (not that one the one that was in Spiritualised and lots of Bunnymen offshoots). Also features Will Sergeant and other Liverpool luminaries such as Candy Payne. Much ignored because they were no longer hip but this still features the bands distinctive sound and Paul's fantastic lyrics One of he standout tracks is the single English Electric Lightning which is indeed about the fighter jet The Wild Swans - The Coldest Winter for a Hundred Years
  5. That’s only the current version of that list, they’ve redone it a number of times and albums have wildly moved in rankings
  6. Bamburg Castle where Armstrong Siddely museum is
  7. Great castle, quite an odd setting for an aviation museum
  8. This isn’t quite boring enough for the Boring Thread but today I learned two things about Basil (the herb) So I have herbs growing outside the flat and my Basil plant has suddenly this week started to grow differently, so I looked it up and it was starting to flower. This isn’t good and if it flowers it'll go to seed and most likely not survive so you need to remove the flowering parts. Yep that’s boring. Anyway I removed the flowering bits. Now Basil smells , well, like Basil but it’s a very sweet distinctive smell. The flowering parts don't smell like that at all. No idea why I gave them a sniff after I removed them but I did. They smell like something else, something else quite distinctive. I asked the missus to have a sniff without mentioning anything. Straight away, she confirmed it. The flowering buds of the Basil plant smell like…. WEED
  9. That whole album can f*** off. I was working security at the Liverpool Beastie Boys gig/riot I refuse to be objective about the music it brings back memories of that night. I like the BBs but not that album
  10. As important an influence on early hip hop as GilScott Heron and the Last Poets. DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash both used breakbeats from Cymande and then De La Soul did it again later on Still largely unknown in the UK where they formed, more well known in the US Inthink
  11. I shall be in Southport on Saturday too Might see if I can fit in a trawl through his corridors of vinyl
  12. For fans of Billy Nomates @Designer1 @blandy et al Tor will be putting up some new music in rough form on her Bandcamp page every Friday for the next few weeks HTTPS://tormaries.Bandcamp.com The message doesn't say but I presume as it’s just rough stuff it'll be free(ish) Theres nowt there right now but I presume there will be tomorrow
  13. Well that association just made me play...
  14. Someone was stupid enough to employ you in the first place? Was his name Geoff by any chance? or even T.... nah don't be stoopid
  15. The only problem with Reece James being injured is that it's bound to push the decent 5/5.5 mil defenders up as there isn't a great choice if you don't want to double up on the same team / play Pep roulette I was looking yesterday and if I want to replace Gabriel next week, apart from Saliba there's no-one in the price bracket so a replacement other than Saliba will most likely be a downgrade to Henry or similar
  16. Impeachment doesn't mean what people appear to think it means. Trump has been impeached twice, he was only found guilty once. It is the process not the punishment
  17. Quite possibly, it was an absolute shithole back then iirc
  18. Oh yes, even if it didn't have a pool table you'd have heard the final click of the balls as you entered it, followed by silence and the knowledge that everyone in the pub was staring at you. Fairly sure even though it wasn't filmed there, some of the Trainspotting scenes were wriitten about being in there
  19. Yep twice I think but its unlikely to happen again as the second time was when my current start word was the solution and I haven't changed it and have no intention of changing it
  20. Oh Suicide is definitely not in your ballpark
  21. Presumably they'll end up banged up for that?
