  1. There's a postscript to this seemingly benign story It eventually flew over Russian occupied Donetsk and Russian soldiers shot at it revealing their positions...oh dear!
  2. There we go, prime example of what I was talking about, this British obsession with railways making money It's infrastructure FFS, it's there to get people from A to B, to earn a living or pay other people for their services. Most other countries in the world do not view public transport as a profit making venture, in Europe it's a very peculiar attitude Beeching had a particularly short sighted view as did the government of the day, hence why an awful lot of lines are now begging to be reopened. We were years ahead of most major European countries in abandoning steam and those that were ahead of us were ahead by less than a decade, this is nonsense
  3. Yeah, I'll give you those, I was just quoting the claim in the video The thing with the Portishead one though is that the trackbed is already there and it needs about three miles of track laying because most of that line has already been relaid for a freight line, even the company that the freight line runs to are in favour of reopening the line to passengers (presumably it'll help get their staff to work) There are loads of these relatively small scale projects all over the country. I've banged on about the reinstatement of the Burscough Curves a few times on here. To have to travel to Preston on the train from Southport requires either going to wigan (and changing stations - short walk - no big issue) or going to Burscough and changing stations (except this time its a small hike and its one train an hour (at best). If they reinstated the curves that join the two lines that cross but do not meet, they could run direct trains. They could also close two stations and open a single new one and now Merseyrail have new trains, some of which are electric but also battery powered, they can even run on non-electrified lines There is no actual will, that is the problem
  4. No clue, I haven't bought a (mailnine) ticket at a station for years. I'm kind of forced to on Merseyrail but thats a different issue entirely
  5. I'm not sure you are grasping the concept of what you're doing here
  6. It won't stop you splitting your fares, there are apps dedicated to split ticketing If they are using that as a reason then they are particularly stupid
  7. That really will be because you have ludicrous expectation levels as evidenced by your it's better listening to the albums comment. It's just wrong headed. If I went to a gig and it sounded just like the album, I'd feel cheated, I'd know they weren't playing live
  8. Yet people still go to the Premier Inns and Travelodges out of habit and expectation that they are cheap.
  9. In fact, I watched this the other day. the bit about commuting from Portishead to Bristol City Centre is quite staggering. If this country was serious about cutting emissions that railway line would have been re-enabled years ago. No CPOs required, the original trackbed is still there, its just a few miles of track. Portishead, the largest town in England without a rail link. Population 25k, a ten mile rush hour journey can take over an hour and a half
  10. Well actually the problems of rail infrastructure in this country aren't down to privatisation, well they are partly but the start of the rot was Beeching in the 60s and that was firmly in nationalised days but it was a Tory Government doing Tory things FWIW I'm all in favour of renationalising but it won't solve the problems you are talking about. There needs to be a complete change in mentality about the purpose of rail and why it exists. Currently and even if if was miraculously renationalised overnight the problems would still exist because currently and for many years of BR, this country expected rail to make a profit
  11. Well yes obviously but also no. There are plenty of venues I just won't go to, the Whoever is Sponsoring it this Year Arena in Liverpool for one
  12. You have a ludicrous expectation level You've been to the wrong gigs You'e going to the wrong venues
  13. Transport for Wales Rail is a nationalised company
  14. We have apps for both Android and iPhone so I see the usage figures, using our platform there are over four iphone users for every Android one, the ratio is roughly 4.3:1
  15. He's either… (a) drunk (b) stupid (c) both Which Eastern European country will they invade next with a completely depleted army. How many non-NATO Eastern European countries are there these days?
  16. Yep, every single Queen gig ever, always sounded shit
  17. Had this a couple of weeks now but it’s really growing on me. I wasn’t so much the fan of the last Album which was a bit hard core punk without the humour… this however is off on a completely different tangent, very much more psyche / experimental electronic heading towards Damaged Bug territory (another of Dwyers band). best album of theirs for a while. Definitely homage to Momus in one song (Fish needs a Bike) Osees - Intercepted Message
  18. Incidentally, I used to go to Westward Ho quite a bit in my late teens/ early twenties. a mate from schools dad owned a bunch of holiday chalets which we absolutely used to go down en masse to, It was our own personal equivalent of Spring Break, the best of times… drunk, stoned and randy

    Weather...

I wasn’t aware you could see into the future?
  20. A lot of that safeness was down to Clarke and not Tories in general, he bucked trends in that seat a few times, his vote share went up in 2017 when it should have gone down on trend and with the new incumbent in 2019 the vote share fell went it should have risen. Polling won’t reflect that because the Clarke vote was there for decades and it wasn’t just his and his constituents remain tendencies, in evidence a lot longer than that iirc Labour victory
  21. Was this because you needed to detour for a Leek?
