  1. Saw them do the whole album live just before Xmas, they were great
  2. Mainly local council responsibility, thats how they get away with that one. Of course all the years of austerity where they underfunded councils and forced them to cut corners has nothing to do with it
  3. Was faced with an either / or for guess 3 and failed Wordle 944 4/6*
  4. You’ve all heard of Arthur Ransome? The Author of Swallows and Amazons series of kids books… Yeah that’s not really the most significant thing he did in his life. I watched this last night and wondered how I never knew all this. The Secret Life of Arthur Ransome (BBC4 iPlayer) He was in Russia before during and after the Russian Revolution. He brokered peace between Estonia and the Bolsheviks (that’s a mental story in itself) but he pretty much also came up with he idea for the Red Army itself. He was very close to Lenin, Trotsky and Radek. He was an asset of he secret service but they also thought he was a double agent at the same time. It’s an absolutely bonkers story.
  5. Being as you seem to spend three quarters of your day stuck in traffic I think I'd rather be at home
  6. Just having a day off so I’m playing stuff that I’d be begged to turn off if others were in the flat. This is way out Leftfield even for the Cabs. It belongs firmly in first period Cabs and is a soundtrack to a film, recorded in 1979. A 16mm film for two projectors as in art not movie. I think of it as an archival piece and not something I'd play very often. This was only released for the very first time in 2019, yes, under 5 years ago and I bought it then… in HMV. A new release limited edition double album of minor interest to the masses. Cost £16.99, not a prayer of them selling that for less than £35 now, less than 5 years later. Can’t be long before they go bust yet again
  7. I am slightly sceptical of YouGovs current results, I do hope they are right as they are consistently scoring the Tories at the lower end of the scale but having said that I'm also not shocked at that result. You could probably extend the age range north about 5 years at least and still see similar results. Come the election after next they'll have very little working age support
  8. That’s the figure per person sent there assuming it runs to capacity of next to Eff all
  9. It’s not a tank in the strictest sense of the word. It’s an Infantry Fighting Vehicle, lightly armoured and not really designed for what it did there, it’s designed to attack softer targets than a MBT and lay down smoke for cover etc. Had that T90M spotted the Bradley, it should have taken it out with ease but… Russia … training … conscript morale … and all those arguments come into play. Armoured vehicles are only as good as their crew and support mechanisms. Just over 100 T90s (of many variants) have been visually confirmed by Oryx to have been lost in the war so far. The T14 Armarta aside, it is Russias most modern MBT. A few are also now in Ukrainian hands having been abandoned / Captured / repaired (13 I think, mostly A but some M)
  10. I read the other day that Slovakia didn’t vote against it despite the nutball in charge campaigning in the election and stated they wouldn’t support money or arms to Ukraine. It was postulated that the reason the campaigned on one thing and did the exact opposite when in power was because the private backers of the PM were primarily interested in arms sales.
  11. Wordle 943 3/6 Coulda been a 2 coulda been a 4
  12. I’ve seen her, she just copies what the others are saying. Absolute waste of anyone’s time
  13. @Xela has a lot of experience
  14. Shhh, don’t tell Tesco, they haven’t put them up yet
  15. Getting a train from Manchester to Blackburn… Northern Fail and Sprinter trains
  16. Right so this kinda fits in here I think. John Alexander Brodie, he was a civil engineer who led the design team of the first Mersey tunnel (and other local engineering projects). Now that fact alone gets him a blue plaque outside the house he used to live in. Many years later around 1987 I too lived in that house but that is by the by but it is how I came to learn this little factoid The Mersey Tunnel has obviously affected millions upon millions of peoples lives over the years in a positive way and that is what he's famous for, there's even a road named after him yards from my flat. This lesser known fact has had a positive effect on many more people over time and is supposedly the achievement he was most proud of. He was an amateur football referee... Makes you wonder why he's most famous for that other thing
