  1. She's obviously self taught, and even the way she sits at the kit looks awkward. But I give her props for hanging in there. She's a perfect fit for what he does, it's all raw and sloppy, that's the sound they go for. Or went for, he just trashed her in an interview...
  2. I know I 'like' every reggae song that gets posted but this is a significant one. I think Marley's vocal skills are often overlooked, and even underrated. But this was the album where his singing really came into it's own, and his confidence as a singer is represented perfectly on this particular track. It's almost as if he is crooning like Sinatra. His phrasing and his non-lyrical riffing show how fearless a singer he was, totally un self-aware and honest.
  3. Yeah, the whole thing was a vanity project for Lerner. He was in over his head from Day One.
  4. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste and preference, as it should.
  5. I read that an English Normandy veteran living in a nursing home was told he couldn't attend today's memorial, so he busted out of there and smuggled himself to France!
  6. This could easily go in the "Things That Cheer You Up" thread- Scheduling my life around watching a 30 day football tournament is a real challenge!
  7. I think Eddie Van Halen gets painted with a similar brush as Hendrix. A lot of people think he's all flare and fireworks and "Look at me" style soloing. But Eddie was a genius at rhythm playing too.
  8. Yeah, I always thought Bonzo was overrated. Keith Moon is 20 times better, in my opinion. Bonham was a big basher, and not much more.
  9. He was much more than just a "pyrotechnic soloing" guitar hero type. He was a incredible rhythm guitarist with impeccable taste, also a really original songwriter- "Castles Made of Sand", "Are You Experienced", "The Wind Cries Mary" just to name a few. He made his name of course with his outlandish stage act and obviously sensational soling ability.
  10. Ringo Starr, in the medley at the end of side two of Abbey Road. All other drum solos are horrible. I heard they had to bring in another drum set so Paul could alternate bass drum kicks...
  11. Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix

  13. They're in a church though...so there could be mass diddling going on in the back
  14. Would the Telegraph publish this willy-nilly just to draw eyeballs and clicks, or could there be something legit about it?
  15. The Telegraph is saying an Arison-Ellison joint bid is in the works...
  16. The fountain memorial at street level should have been enough. A simple, dignified memorial site, not some tragedy porn shop. Awful.
  17. Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. H. L. Mencken
  18. Added depth and competition, this is a very good signing for what Villa are right now. Hopefully he is considered surplus to requirements sooner rather than later.
  19. I have a Chilean friend, I'll be sending this to him. We're gonna watch the Chile-Spain match together, should be a good one.
  20. That was the year I said Rooney can't score goals with his head
