  1. Problem with that is, if we didn't topple Hussein, IS does not exist there, they'd never have tried their luck. We created the power vacuum there, and in rushed the worst of the worst. So we do have a responsibility now.
  2. It looks like Lerner is trying to consolidate a mid table position, nothing more or less until he sells. And after the scares of the last couple of season, I'll take mid table . Sad but true. We aren't going to challenge for trophies anytime soon, so we might as well look to lock down what we can, until a sugar daddy comes along.
  3. IS ISIS ISIL We should bomb them for not choosing just one.
  4. My worst week yet, so I guess its good that I played my card. Keeps me near the top still, I think
  5. He's got wages down to where he wants them, and a team that is obviously good enough to not get relegated. He might decide to give it another go as long as no one meets his valuation. We'll see how serious he is about it in January.
  6. If the club were actually for sale for as a little as £40million, AVST would be all over it, because that's a figure that is screaming for a supporter takeover. It ain't us.
  7. I'd love to see a SF-LA series, just to see how many fights there are in the stands
  8. I slept for 14 hours last night
  9. It's interesting how personality can affect public opinion. You might remember the British nanny case here in Boston, who was convicted of manslaughter for shaking an infant to death. A lot of the conversation around here wasn't about the nanny, but about the parents. Why would they leave a 5 month old baby in the hands of a 16 year old stranger? They weren't very likable people either, they seemed very cold and very career driven professional types, and their interviews didn't do much to get people on their side.
  10. Ooh, nice catch Stefan. Bad quiz.
  11. I'm the all time league leader in close losses
  12. Yahoo's players blurbs are interesting. The latest on Brandon LaFell is to "ignore him" as a fantasy option. But he's emerged as the 2nd WR on the Pats, and had a big game last week. Silly Yahoo.
  13. Suffolk Downs closed down after a final day of racing today. A sad day for New England horse racing.
  14. I noticed that too. Sissokho in particular looked like he was running through molasses for the last 20 minutes.
  15. Miller's Crossing is probably my favorite film of all time. I love the Coen Brothers for making it. It is a total masterpiece. I really like some of their other films too, notably Barton Fink and Fargo. I know many people consider The Big Lebowski to be their best one. I tried to watch it a few times, but it just didn't do anything for me. I couldn't even finish it. But I recently recorded it to my DVR, so I finally watched the whole thing. And I still think the thing is massively overrated. It's a decent flick with some funny scenes, but it's kind of mediocre, especially considering what they accomplished with Miller's Crossing. But I also walked out of the theater during Saving Private Ryan, so I guess my taste in movies don't always align with the prevailing view.

  18. I'd like to see him played in a more advanced position, we've got to get more shots on goal.
  19. He bounced right off Zabaleta in a battle for the ball at one point. Some weight training will be required methinks. Someone said that he has a lot to learn about desire. Erm....not sure how you came to that conclusion, to me the kid has desire to burn. It's how he applies that desire on the pitch that will matter. He cannot expect to make magical runs every time he's got the ball at his feet. He's got bundles of confidence, but he'll need to take as much pride in his passing as he does in his dribbling to flourish. I noticed that the City players were very quick to close him down, too. The curse of a big reputation. You either get kicked to death like against Hull, or you get doubled teamed at every turn. It will be a real challenge for Jack to continue to develop. If he's handled right, he should be fine.
  20. Crap, that is not good. How is his prognosis?
  21. "Baby Doc" Duvalier is dead. Not many tears to be shed.
  22. I didn't really know my Dad's dad well, and I was 6 when he died. My other grandad died in 1998. I got the phone call that he was in a bad way, so I got in my car for the 3 hour drive. The car broke down 1 hour in. By the time I had it towed to a garage and rented a car and got to the hospital, he had passed. He was a real gentleman, well respected by everyone, even though he was outcast from his family and excommunicated from the church for marrying a Protestant girl ( you just didn't do that in 1930s Boston). He could fix just about anything that was broken. He was a really skilled woodworker, and when he was older he enjoyed his gardening and golf. I still miss him a lot. We called him Joe.
