  2. It's still just November, don't give up, the club needs everyone pulling together now
  3. I think if asked off the record, most Obama admin people who say that they probably should have never made the move against Assad, but it was coming on the heels of the Arab Spring, so they probably thought a little push would be all that it would take to tip the scales against him. For Russia, Assad was a loyal partner, and part of the non-Sunni circle of friends of Putin, as well as foe of the West, so in effect, a satellite Russian regime.
  4. Anyone (sometimes) wish a bad event gets worse, and then is weirdly disappointed when it doesn't? Like a level 4 hurricane that collapses into a tropical storm, or a snowfall forecast of 2 feet that only drops 8 inches. Or a riot that breaks up before it gets totally mental...

  6. Is possible that CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray could meet in the CL
  7. I'd say it's a concern, he's gone out on the piss two nights in a row on the heels of a 4-0 drubbing, he hasn't been playing well, and we're in dead last place. If it's not a legit controversy, it's damn close.
  8. Maybe the difference is that we are witnessing it all in real time, and see the minutiae of it's all playing out, how the dots connect, etc. 100 years sheds enough light on WW1 that it's reasoning seems ridiculous, although I'm sure it all seemed reasonable then. But I take your basic point, war is stupid and signifies nothing but human failure.
  9. I just think the reasoning behind WW1 was so mind numbingly stupid that a certain level of complicated gets assigned to it in order to give it some sort of justification, whereas it really just came down to a few royal families having a squabble and sending their subjects into a human meat grinder to settle it.
  10. Ha, I was thinking the same thing. Could today's event be the Franz Ferdinand-style trigger?
  11. I think WW1 was just incredibly stupid more than complicated.
  12. Putin is in a tough spot all of a sudden. Two major incidents since he decided to join the scrum, so things aren't going very well for him. And now he can't be seen as being weak...but Russian-Turkish relations until today were pretty stable. Massive economic ties that he will not want to damage too much, but he still has to act. He probably wishes he stayed the **** out of it now!

    Chelsea

Anyone know why Cahill has not been a regular starter for them this season?
  14. I'm sure the pilot wasn't thinking they were telling him to enjoy the view...
  15. This all gets more fascinating by the day. I can't remember a more convoluted geopolitical situation...ever? So many players involved with both similar and conflicting interests, it's impossible to predict how it will shake out, but it certainly won't be pretty.
  16. The Russians have been playing with fire trolling other countries airspace for years now... hate to say it, but it was only a matter of time.
