In The Godfather Part 2, when everyone is fleeing the presidential palace in Havana, and Michael calls out to Fredo, the audio suddenly sounds like it is compressed into a tin can. Every time I've watched the scene, on many different screens/systems, the same thing. It always kind of annoyed me...and made me wonder.

Was watching a bit of "Black Hawk Down" last night, and disliked it as much as the first time. Banter heavy American war propaganda. The interesting thing though was Tom Hardy and Orlando Bloom playing bit parts. Spud and Mark Renton too, coming off their Trainspotting triumph. All struggling to do American accents, lol.

Did a little more reading about Shackleton's adventure, and the guy who was the real hero was Capt. Worsley. First of all, the Norwegian whalers warned Shackleton not to make the trip because the ice pack was so fierce. He refused their advice. Then, when they actually saw land, he decided to gamble and keep sailing so that their overland trek would be shorter. Worsley tried to dissuade him of this as well. And without Worsley's navigational skill, they'd never have survived the rescue voyage. It was Shackleton's arrogance that got their ship crushed and nearly killed all of them. Charismatic leader of men and tough as nails, but not quite the kind of hero he's made out to be.

On that Who track, you really miss Townshend's cutting guitar that interplays no nicely with Moon's drumming. Pete was an excellent rhythm guitarist, and he played it almost like a drummer would.
