  1. You can go your own way, then...
  2. What is this, are you two a couple of communists?
  3. I just read that Prince settled out of court with Journey over the similarities between Purple Rain and Faithfully. It's been something I've noticed for a while now actually. It's all but a ripoff. But Prince made his tune much better than the Journey song, but w/e. Journey has enough money anyway. Their most lucrative tour was the one they did with their new singer a few years ago. It's crazy if you think about it. If you had just ONE hit song, you're basically set for life, if you're smart with your money.
  4. This is one of those awkward VT moments. Brought to you by General Krulak!* *Some assembly required.
  5. Love the cynicism. How can you not be a complete cynic at this point? If I was betting money, I'd put it on Lerner still being here in July.
  6. You'd never think she's singing about injustice, ignorance and violence. ^^^ Caribbean music rules.
  7. I don't have kids, but I have a nephew who I love like a son. I'm a semi-surrogate father to him anyway. I love being an uncle. He's 13 now, and I remember it like it was yesterday when he was born. He was an emergency C-Section and several weeks premature. He was so small he could fit in the palm of my hand. Good stuff man, enjoy being an uncle!
  8. The 80's were tumultuous for English football, wren't they? Hooliganism, The Bradford Fire, Heysel, and Hillsborough. Watching the Bradford fire video is bloody harrowing.
  9. Does anyone know the capacity of Leppings Lane at the time and was there ever an estimate of how many people were in the stand and inside the gate tunnel when the crush occurred?
  10. That made me feel really hopeful, so I gave you a like. Then I remembered that we are owned by Randy Lerner.
  11. The fact that there was a thunderstorm going on for that adds to the vibe of the whole thing. Very uplifting moment, I'm pissed I never saw him play live now. I've always loved Prince, but was never a hardcore fan. I owned Purple Rain and disc 2 of the 3 disc greatest hits release. For some reason he was never really on my radar as someone I felt compelled to go see. Bummer.
  12. Well, we're already almost universally despised, so if this pisses off Latvia too, then we might as well just vote Trump, for the symmetry.
  13. Take a look at this dickhead... He's a Massachusetts state trooper, charged with aggravated assault on his wife, also a state trooper, who says he's beat her for years and is an alcoholic and steroid user. But look at the face on that guy. He's pure evil. He's the face of localized government power, really. word removed.
  14. 30 years ago, Clinton would be considered a dyed in the wool republican. She's still not too far off, really.
  15. That's kind of besides the point though. Of course there was always going to be more fans wanting to get in. And as soon as the police opened the gate to them, they were essentially given tacit approval to do so. Because there was no sound plan to address the probability of an overflow of fans is what allowed the tragedy to happen.
  16. Thats what I'm saying, those people without tickets should not have made it inside the ground. Total failure of basic crowd control measures.
  17. Duckenfield is a villain, and probably the biggest scapegoat involved, and deservedly so. It's amazing he's not been put behind bars for even a token term. But his personal negligence exposed other flaws in the public safety apparatus in Sheffield, and in how the game was policed in general. I think standing areas should be brought back and could be. The issue was so simple, too many people got in the ground.

  19. I think the Hillsborough tragedy was bound to happen. And if not there, probably at another ground. I'd like to think the victims didn't die in vain, but laid down their lives so that future generations of football fans could be safe from that kind of catastrophe ever happening again.
  20. I just learned of this incident with Spurs fans in the same stand. Amazing negligence from SWFC and the SYP for not getting a handle on what was clearly a very dangerous problem.
