  1. Or even better than most, for him. Has-been player, has-been club.
  2. LOL, just came on to post the same thing. The derby matches should be eventful...
  3. Restored 1978 320i. What a beauty.
  4. The automobile industry was probably shrewd enough to demand post war concessions from FDR in return for retrofitting their plants to make planes and tanks etc.
  5. I need to join a gym for a few month and tighten my act up. For my age, I'm in pretty good shape, but I can feel my muscle mass start to decline somewhat. Aging..
  6. You can see the freeway in the back and the cut off North End neighborhood just beyond it. Today the freeway is underground, and that area is mostly green space.
  7. City Hall in Boston...looks similar in a way-
  8. My junior high school was a Brutalist building with hardly any windows. It felt like a prison. They built it on a marshy area, and after heavy rain the gymnasium would flood. The theory was that the school was slowly sinking, like a half inch a year. Inspiring learning environment, eh?
  9. Summer home on the Maine coast, winter home in the Caribbean or Polynesia. Season tickets to Villa and a flat in Birmingham.
  10. if millwall win, I'm flying to london for that fixture knuckle dusters in tow
  11. The West End, when they razed it, was considered to be a run down immigrant enclave, and Scollay Square was one of two downtown areas known for vice. So the reasons for their destruction were very political. They also thought it was a good idea to put an eight lane freeway right through downtown, completely cutting off the North End, which is our Little Italy. The debacle that ensued over the next 40 years led to The Big Dig, what is, to this day, still the country's most expensive public works project.
  12. I was at a bar earlier and there was this old man talking about jumping freight trains and washing his clothes by the riverbed. He also said the government has no **** right to tell him how to administer pain medication. Give em hell old timer!
  13. Urban Renewal was a tragedy for so many cities during that era. In Boston, they completely razed the once famous Scollay Square area and the West End for "Improvements". They replaced the area with concrete Brutalist boxes. Terrible. I love these old photos though! Scollay Square- Looked pretty cool, right? My grandmother worked as a coat check girl at one of the bars down there. When my Dad was old enough, he'd pick her up after work, cuz my grandfather would always be too drunk to drive...
  14. And the ending was one of the better scenes! Easily the worst episode yet, IMO.
  15. Yeah, he's really good too. But Knopfler just pips it for me. Xann, drop some elitism on me, who's the best?
  16. I saw a Mazda RX-7 with Antique plates on it today. My God, I'm getting old.
  17. Yep, with former Massachusetts GOP governor Bill Weld as his VP pick. Socially liberal, economically conservative, although that might be a contradiction in terms! Libertarian candidates have never really had much of an impact in American politics, sorry Levy .
  18. I buy the occasional lottery ticket..I know I won't win, but spending a dollar on a dream is totally worth it to me.
  19. It was a self-fulfilling paradox. Strange. I was trying to wrap my head around it, but couldn't qute. It's a bit messy, isn't it?
  20. The theatre scene, and just about every other scene in the episode besides the Baelish one. The rest of it seemed kind of hokey and low budget.
  21. Arguably the greatest live rock song recording of all time. The Stones flamed out in a major way a long long time ago, but this tune makes you step back in time and appreciate the energy of their act back then. Real performers, this is tight as ****. I've never heard anything quite like the roar of the crowd at the end. Total triumph.
  22. The dude was just a mouthpiece with medals to lend Lerner a little muscle, and he probably laughs with his Army buddies about the faggot soccer team he used to run... That's how a lot of guys like him view things.
