I think I scared my mother when this happened. Red Sox down to our last strike in the American League championship series. (Winner goes to World Series). This was game 5, we won the series in 7, and I was at Fenway for the clinching win. The table turned on us against the Mets in the WS. We were a strike away from winning it all but blew it and lost the series. The repercussions from both series were stark- Donnie Moore, the Angels pitcher who gave up the home run to us ended up killing himself. On our end, Bill Buckner was the fall guy for our loss to New York. He received death threats from Boston "fans" so he retired and moved to Idaho.

The moment the star player for the Boston Bruins changed his number from 7 to 77 so old hand Phil Esposito could retire the no. 7. One of the great moments of sportsmanship.

Monday 2 Sept is best for me!

I've been buying Kumatoes lately and they are superior to regular cherry or grape tomatoes in every way. Sweeter and less acidic and really useful as a quick topping for pasta. I fried up a diced clove of garlic in olive oil and butter, got the pan real hot and then poured a little Riesling in there and threw in some sliced Kumatoes. Tossed some cooked penne in the pan. Chili flakes, salt, fresh ground black pepper, grated Parmesan with a few leaves of fresh basil...glass of Oregon Pinot Gris, and I'm golden.

I'm literally having a difficult time keeping up with these new signings and I'm loving every minute of it.

Just watched I Love You Now Die on HBO. 2 part doc on a really fascinating and disturbing case in Massachusetts about the girl who persuaded her boyfriend by text messaging to kill himself. It's much more complicated than the sensational headlines and the doc does a good job illuminating the nuances. Tragic all around and a thoroughly contemporary and complex legal case.

All the police do in Chicago is react. Mayhem.

Some guy in a big pickup truck intentionally came really close to hitting me as I made a turn. I called him an asshole as I passed him. I noticed in my rearview that he turn around and followed me into a parking lot where I was heading. Flew up behind me and jumped out of his truck. I probably should've driven away but I let him walk up to my door where he proceeded to challenge me to a fight, etc. Big fat angry guy in a macho truck in Maine. The entire time I was thinking he may have a handgun on him. You can legally carry a concealed handgun in Maine. So I talked him down a bit, just enough to make a difference I guess. I drove off. A younger Maqroll would've been tempted to step out of the car. But in the current climate in this country, I made the right decision, 100%. Still would've liked to have fought him dirty and taken my baseball bat to his headlights.

We are. And Smith-Pitarch are doing it with an eye on future continuity which should be the best news Villa fans have heard in a long while.
