It was a throwback Villa collapse, and I thought we'd put those behind us.

I hear you. But 5 losses in a row with the team looking worse and worse with each game is hard to survive, anywhere. I think the brass were unhappy with last season's finish and a spell like this was never going to be tolerated much longer than it was. In the poll, I voted to give him another game after a Soton loss. He'd earned the two week break to try to finally put things right. It is really **** sad that they've cut him loose, but it's a business and it's their money on the line, so I understand it. The look on his face at the final whistle yesterday made me really feel for Dean. He looked like his dream was shattering before his eyes. I wish things were different. I'll always look at that Wolves collapse as the point of no return. Had we won that game.... Sad day in Villa Land.

Very sad day. I really thought that Dean could be our Sir Alex. It just seemed like the right fit. Kept improving our position, players improved. Really likeable guy who represented the club with dignity and grace. Perhaps didn't do himself any favors recently, but the players have let him down. He will bounce back and get a good job and don't be surprised if he is back in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Yep. He could have stayed with his family club, stayed the main man, free to be the artist while pushing Villa up the table, attracting other big players, all while playing for England and making a fortune and becoming an all time folk hero.

The look on his face that last minute of the game made me feel very sad for him. The look of a guy whose dream is being shattered.

The brass will be tempted to sack him now with 15 days until the next match, which they'll view as sufficient time to bring in a replacement. The way the team came out in the first half is damning on them and Smith. We are now truly in a relegation battle and the season is veering into catastrophic territory.
