  1. Eating options in the 70s and 80s was a wasteland of processed food and frozen vegetables. Exotic food was "Polynesian style" Chinese food, dumbed down for Americans. Nobody complained either because we didn't know how sh*t it our options were.
  2. I was painting in broad strokes. Reagan was catastrophic in many ways, and we are suffering for it right now. And I never give much credence to the idea that a President can control the economy. But he was a shrewd communicator and he was able to convince people that America was "#1". Domestic manufacturing was still humming along and people had liveable wages and pensions. There was crack and AIDS and crime and the rest, but the basic mood was confident.
  3. The 80's. I turned 13 in '84. It was neon fever dream of peak USA myth marketing, exciting technological and aeronautical advances, and a generally optimistic mood in the country. 90's cynicism changed all that. I thought music in the 80s was more vibrant and creative on the whole. My memories of the 70s was much different. Everyone was poorer, the cars were huge and loud, Boston was dirty. The 80s seemed to just sweep away the gloom.
  4. I'm not sure Davis will want to stay as a bench option again. He's having a ball at Forest. We need an explosive and athletic striker. As much as I like Watkins and Ings, they probably aren't the guys we need to advance.
  5. Benzema is a very cultured player. His third goal looked like it was almost intentionally gifted to him by Mendy and Rudiger. ($?)
  6. Comedy defending from Everton. That's the type of result that happens to relegated sides. I'd much rather have Dyche than Lampard in a relegation scrap.
  7. I think Coutinho is important to use as a lure. Digne was a fluke who we wouldn't have been able to sign a week later. It's names like Suarez that make my stomach uneasy. Unless the deal is cut rate, an expensive and declining Suarez would stymie Ollie/Ings and Archer.

    Kerr Smith

Training with the first team! That was quick.
  9. It is concerning. Gerrard is ambitious beyond Villa and wants to have success right now. Is he motivated to build things slowly and sustainably? I have my doubts.
  10. I really want Villa shirts to have gold/yellow trim and I think all future sponsor logos should be gold/yellow.
  11. Hate to say it, but I can see them rampaging right through us.
  12. If he did that, he'd be pulling the plug on himself. He's going to give Gerrard a war chest and hope for the best. If we are floundering in 16th place in January 2023 after another big spend, maybe Gerrard will.be on the chopping block. But until then, he's not going anywhere.
  13. With that team, it's surprising they didn't lock down Jansen to an extension.
  14. Today was the first time under Gerrard where I thought they looked badly coached.
  15. McGinn will end up at Palace next season, mark my words.
  16. we are 4 deep in the position. i can see us holding pat for now.
  17. Do we know if these were Lange or Smith or Purslow signings, or a combination?
  18. This. Gerrard isn't going anywhere. As long as we aren't threatened with relegation I think Purslow gives him two full summer transfer windows to assemble a team to get into Europe.
  19. These are the team performances and results that will give Phil and his agent plenty to talk about. Anyone thinking that locking him down to a contract will be pro forma is deluded. We are a beached whale at the moment, despite having expensive internationals throughout the side. Nothing inspiring about Aston Villa. Right now. If Arteta comes in with a big contract and a Champions League schedule, Phil is as good as gone, IMO.
