After every loss under Gerrard last season, he'd throw the players under the bus by saying "I need better players". He's signed a few "better players", but the majority from last season are still here. Who among them know how Gerrard feels about them? His treatment of Buendia has been shocking. His treatment of Mings has been shocking. He's doing more harm.than good, isn't he?

Exactly that. Purslow sacked the immensely popular Smith in easily the most controversial move of his tenure and replaced him with his pal. He's taken a bit of a gamble here and he's not about to concede defeat after one game. While the justification for sacking Smith was that the bad results formed a continuum from the previous season, with Gerrard he will consider this season a fresh slate, especially because it's been his first full preseason. So unless the dressing room erupts in mutiny and results continue to shock, Gerrard is safe, IMO.

At the very least, overtures should be made towards Pochettino's agent. Suss out his potential interest, let him know we are interested...maybe even come to an unofficial understanding with an expiration date attatched.

The best people can hope for who want Gerrard out is that there's been a meltdown behind the scenes and ownership are aware and concerned. If not, he's going nowhere anytime soon.

People are in Dreamland if they think Gerrard is going to be sacked anytime before October. Sadly, that would be enough time to torpedo our season. But Purslow is personally invested in Gerrard and he will give him a long leash. The only thing that could shift the pieces around would be fan pressure which is already percolating after just one game.

Agreed. I think we all run the risk of *almost* enjoying the negativity. Yesterday is behind us. Let's see what the week ahead has in store. Maybe an incoming player. And maybe 3 points on Saturday.

I noticed yesterday that every time the camera turned to Gerrard he was sat in his seat. Remember him slumped in his seat last season. Bad optics.

I wouldn't expect him to admit he's gotten it all wrong for the bulk of his time here. We saw last season that he is rigid with selection and tactics. He is stubborn and plays favorites. So McMeat-ball wins the day. (But loses matches)
