  1. Chiefs win it. That's too bad. I guess I'll root for Philly.
  2. Just a catastrophic injury for Niners. Also, Olsen is unbearable.
  3. I read that they've been scouting for him for the last year.
  4. Really subdued Philly crowd. I remember at their old stadium they were notoriously boisterous. Pretty tame now I guess.
  5. Strange that we'd sell Ings, loan out Archer and not sign a proven striker.. Considering that Duran isn't even an Emery signing, would Emery really just roll with inconsistent Watkins and unproven Duran? Surely a striker is incoming?
  6. Such a compelling team, such dull supporters.
  7. I think the better investment would be signing Brighton's director of scouting and recruitment for much less money.
  8. Fantastic, Brighton! Loving this Liverpool misery tour
  9. Bengals won't be rooting for 49ers. They are 0-2 in the Super Bowl, losing twice to SF.
  10. He's just a typical redneck Mainer. Essentially harmless, an otherwise fairly affable guy but just very insular, untraveled, unread and ignorant. He's too backward to know how egregious the comment was.
  11. It's a little tricky where I am and some of the interpersonal, political and workplace dynamics that would fall directly on me as a consequence. In the tiny community where I live and work it's sometimes just easier to keep your mouth shut. If it becomes a regular thing, I'll just have a word with the guy directly and tell him to stop it.
  12. Except that he got terminally homesick and never seemed to fully settle at Villa.
  13. A good antidote to the winter doldrums is a fresh batch of homemade guacamole with some sturdy tortilla chips. I added some high quality chipotle powder for some extra kick.
  14. I have a love/hate relationship with the January transfer window. I've reached the stage where I just want it to end.
  15. Is that hair a hindrance? It looks like it could be grabbed it tight areas. #kenneth
  16. I was training a new guy at work this week. On our first day we got to talking about the job market. He said "Young people don't like to work." (He's in his late 50s). He continued, "They get out of school, make a little African-American money and just stop working." I asked him.what he meant by that, and he said "N****r money." Nonsensical and deeply racist and ignorant. I didn't say anything because I had to be glued to him for two days. I suppose I could report it, but I'm not a snitch. I can manage working with him. I know what he is. In my lifetime, I've heard racial slurs a handful of times in conversation and I'm always left feeling totally deflated. This guy thought I'd approve of his statement. It's mind boggling. The casual nature of it, and that it came out of the blue will haunt me for some time.
  17. I'm not sure that it's not entirely about race, despite the cops being black as well. The cops likely felt that by virtue of Nichols being black, his life was inherently less valuable. I cant envision a similar scenario in which the victim is white. Not in Tennessee or in most cities here, but especially in the South. Chances are that the mostly black neighborhoods of Memphis are overpoliced, and that this is by design. So these black cops probably thought that they were simply doing what the white power structure wanted of them and that they had total impunity. If you want to go deeper, you might speculate that these black cops had such self-hatred that it manifested in murder of "one of their own". Either way, it's hard to view this outside the prism of race and racial power structures, the history of the South, etc.
  18. Marsch is an interesting study. Accomplished enough that he was offered a job in the Premier League to salvage Leeds season. He did it, just barely. He's recruited fairly well, his players seem to be willing to die for him, they've actually played ok, but results haven't gone their way. I think he deserves more time. There are far worse teams besides Leeds, so I'd be surprised if they keep dropping points. That said, they should have a few managers on speed dial just in case. As for the personality stuff, ultimately it's all white noise. I think people enjoy making fun of the Americanisms and have been waiting for him to fail so they can feel smug. For this reason, I want him to succeed. I'm from the East coast, so his earnestness and Boy Scout type bearing seems weird and foreign to me too in a way. But his players love him, so his personality seems to work. I find his sideline demeanor really off-putting, but he's less annoying in interviews. Not my cup of tea personally, but looking at the other Prem managers, few of them are either!
  19. I feel like he should've been slotted straight into the starting lineup when he was recalled. We missed the chance to see if the insane form he was in could continue in the Premier League. If it had continued, our striker options might be all set right now. It's a failure that the club didn't try to harness that sparkling form and see how far we could ride it.
  20. I get the feeling we will sell him this summer. The Duran signing suggests it.
