Or at least make it a more open competition... The idea is to incorporate a playoff system. So let's say if the season ended now, the two Manchester clubs would get a bye. The 3rd place team would play the 6th place team at home, the 4th would play the 5th, at home. The winner of 3-6 would play the #2 seed at #2, the winner of 4-5 would play the #1 seed, at #1. The winners of these two games would meet at Wembley for the Premiership title. So with a system like this in place, you'd give mid table sides hope and a chance to try and nick 6th place and see what happens. You'd also avoid the anti-climax of clubs winning the league with 3 weeks remaining in the season.

So much for that...

In some respects this is the best case scenario for Guzan. He's filling in for the Number 1, the pressure is lessened, if he f*cks up, well, he's the bench keeper... if he does well, it's a bonus, and everyone's happy. It's a good way to cut his teeth. I expect some clubs to come knocking over the summer, some of the promoted sides, and lower table Premiership sides. We should hold on to him, IMO.

I think the Bent signing was an aberration- it was a desperation buy to keep us up, and it worked wonders. Now it looks like we'll do enough to avoid relegation even w/o Bent scoring...so the board will think "Why NOT sell him?"

RL and PF must know that selling Bent now would trigger the worst backlash they've yet to see. Protests, empty seats, non-renewals, etc. But, considering they PAID Small Heath for McGash, I guess anything is possible. :?
