  1. I'd get curious looks stepping into the pub wearing my Villa shirt, surrounded by people in red tops....never saw any Norwich or Blackburn shirts in Boston. It's all Sky Four, English, Irish and Americans alike. I know an Irish bartender who is a big Spurs fan. There was a Bolton supporter from Bolton that used to come down to the pub. But now we get the games on TV at home, so that pub community isn't what it used to be. Between 1992 and 2000, the pub was the only place to watch English football. Some good times, with the Guinness flowing at 10AM And a nice little racket the pubs had, too. They were making a KILLING on Sat and Sun mornings, when most bars would be dead, or closed.
  2. I can understand West Ham with the London thing and Elijah Wood as an unconvincing hooligan but what's going on with these other clubs? How do Newcastle have 20 times our support in the USA? Norwich FFS we have an American owner and goalkeeper, until recently. I'm not questioning your stats just trying to find out why this has happened. Newcastle is mixed there's a lot of Geordie ex-pats over here probably cause most people want to get as far away from the Newcastle as they can. The origin of American Newcastle fans is uncertain possibly in part it's down to that silly "Goal" film and possibly cause they were marketed in America at just about the right time. No idea where the Norwich fans have come from, for the most part they are Ex-Pats but there's loads of them across multiple pubs it's almost like some group of pranksters taking the piss. West Ham interestingly enough are almost all Ex-Pats, I think you get the odd kid who see Frodo in the Hooligan film and goes out to be a West Ham fan, after about ten minutes with the real West Ham fans they tend to **** off and support Arsenal or Chelsea instead. In terms of Villa numbers we are 50% ex-pats and the other 50% Americans who sadly for them didn't know any better. It's strange tho, not only do we not have many Brummie Villa ex-pats around, you rarely meet anyone living over here who's from the midlands. Would you believe I had a Bluenose roommate from Brum here in Boston...I ended up kicking him out cuz he turned out to be such a clearing in the woods....my first real lesson in Blunoseology....
  3. Not an outrageous question, given you're an island nation.

I have a feeling that a lot of American Toon supporters picked them because they had the Newcastle beer logo on the shirt, and Newcastle beer was big over here in the mid to late 90's...
  5. No surprise today that it was announced Liverpool are coming to Boston and playing Roma...
  6. Huge Central American and Mexican population there
  7. They all suck, who cares? I'd be more concerned that 2 of the 3 cities are shit. Only Chicago is a really good town. The Portland game might be fun, because their supporters are very enthusiastic. They have some guy with a chainsaw roaming around there though, that's a little concerning.
  8. Back when Americans still had traces of an English accent....good clip
  9. Pfft, get back to me in 10 years! P.S. Happy Birthday

    Quiz!

Guess the Club by it's Crest I scored 23/32... :x
  11. This reminded me of a cool documentary I saw a few years ago about L.A.
  12. Only thing worse is a club changing
  13. 3 bank robbers in Boston were caught when they couldn't drive the car they stole because it was a stick shift One of them died in a shootout with police.... Darwinism FTW
  14. Its confusing; previous interviews have been translated as he doesn’t know the club well, not that the club is not good I wouldn't putt much faith in the translation talents of the Talksport bullshit peddlers.

    Pain Killers

I have chronic back pain, and recently was put on Tramadol, a synthetic opioid. At first it worked great, it essentially tricks your brain into not receiving pain signals. But now, (3 months on), the pain is coming back...as is the frustration. Do any of you take prescription medication for pain, and if so, what...and does it work for you?

    Do you read?

Just finished "Life" by Keef Richards....a rollicking good time of a book. And very well written, actually. Deserving of all the praise it's gotten. He comes of as a genuine guy, and by the books end, you almost feel like you're one of his friends, as corny as that sounds. I came away feeling like for Keith, it's always been less about fame and fortune and more about friends and family. And the music, of course. Well worth a read, especially if you grew up a Stones fan or play an instrument. He goes into great detail about his craft, it's fascinating stuff. Some hair raising stories as well.
  17. I'd try to avoid murder, if possible. If the guy is menacing/threatening your family, save the texts, and go to the police. I'm about your age, and we're too old to be brawling with young idiots. Not worth it, man. At all. I'm sure we've all seen the red mist from time to time, and the best policy is always to avoid confrontation. If he attacks you, snap his neck, but don't go looking for it. Drop a dime on him, and see if the police scare him enough for him to shape up.
  18. 3-0 against Arsenal....a respectable result for Aston Villa these days.
  19. It's a brilliant, multi-part documentary that tells the story of Jazz from it's origins up through the mid 60's...you may have to search around YouTube to find the episodes to watch them in order...worth the effort and definitely worth watching.
