  1. Red Sox got hammered by Detroit today, 10-0 Fat Boy Beckett gave up 5 HR's, 2 apiece to Cabrera and Fielder. I know that Fenway is gonna let him hear it next time he's on the mound at home and makes one mistake. People have pegged him as the instigator of all that nonsense toward the end of last season, and today he was pathetic...not a good start for the team. But my God, Detroit is just a monster of a team. If they trade for a pitcher in July, the WS is all but theirs.
  2. Damn you CED, another one for my shopping list. I wonder if a VT jazz thread would feature anybody except you, me and Xann? OK, four of us then!
  3. Good away point, not expected....not surprised we coughed up the lead at the end, it's just tradition at this point...still a valuable point...

  5. The Dodgers sold for $2 Billion...the richest deal in the history of sports... Amazing to think that the Yankees sold for $18,000 in 1913.
  6. What a beast Cisse is...shame we couldn't have scooped him up...the guy is scoring goals for fun....how I'd love to see a player like that at Villa.
  7. Clearly not conceived by a Yankees fan
  8. Mariano with the blown save....54.00 ERA to start the season
  9. That's an expensive mistake....hope the injured aren't too hurt.
  10. I think Aceves can handle the closing role decently until Bailey is healthy. I think Lester and Beckett are each good for 15+ wins....Buchholz is the big question mark. If our 3rd starter can't produce the goods, we are going to struggle, because after him, it's a total roll of the dice. I expect a trade come July for another arm. Aceves is good, no doubt. But who's gonna step up and do long relief? How do you like Bard as a starter? I don't like Bard as a starter. I thought they should have given him the closer job. And Aceves excelled in long relief last year, so I'd have preferred to see him in that role again...the bullpen is a concern, no doubt. The whole team is a concern, really. Sweeney and Ross as corner outfielders isn't scaring anyone.
  11. Yeh you're not the first to tell me they're a horrible team - I don't get it? Dislikable players/staff? Also I did hear the fans had a rep for being pretty brutal, that endeared me to them though if anything I think White Sox fans are widely considered the worst behaved fans in baseball...in totality though, Philly fans take the cake.
  12. Helluva game from Masterson. Why can't WE get players like that?
  13. The 2014 successor to that (though no word on whether there will be an Impala SS ) looks pretty nice, too. My granddad had a lime green, 1970 Chevy Nova that looked a bit like this car...he sold the thing in 1998, and it had under 60K miles on it. If I had the money then....
  14. I know that working and making money is important and whatnot.. on Fridays, I'm "on call", and usually I get called in...but tonight, I got called off, and all I feel is RELIEF...
  15. D'oh, I thought it said "In" England....and there I was all pleased with myself
  16. Yeah, I feckin' hate green walls My personal favourite piece is the home run monument thingy. Just an explosion of bleeeeh. To be fair though, the ballpark looks better from the outside from the pictures I've seen. That shade of green is horrendous....and what IS that big fruit basket looking thing behind center field? I heard it's supposed to light up like a slot machine when they hit a HR....Apparently they have cheerleaders, too. That's a first for baseball...It seems like they think they need to get gimmicky to draw bigger crowds...it should be interesting how things play out down there, because they have loads of talent, big egos, and an insane manager.
  17. Yeah, we drafted already, sorry man. Next year. The Phillies have the best pitching staff in baseball, but their offense has been slowly falling apart. There will be a lot of low scoring Phillies games this season....

  19. They should give it to Given, IMO. Gabby isn't quite captain material...
