  1. While rare and impressive, a perfect game is a one off, whereas the Triple Crown is the culmination of an an entire season's worth of offensive production, and an even harder feat to achieve. But the way Matt Kemp is hitting the ball, we could see the first Triple Crown winner in a generation. Year Lg Player Team/(BA, HR, RBI) 1967 AL Carl Yastrzemski BOS .326, 44 HR, 121 RBI 1966 AL Frank Robinson BAL .316, 49 HR, 122 RBI 1956 AL Mickey Mantle NYY .353, 52 HR, 130 RBI 1947 AL Ted Williams BOS .343, 32 HR, 114 RBI 1942 AL Ted Williams BOS .356, 36 HR, 137 RBI 1937 NL Joe Medwick STL .374, 31 HR, 154 RBI 1934 AL Lou Gehrig NYY .363, 49 HR, 165 RBI 1933 AL Jimmie Foxx PHA .356, 48 HR, 163 RBI 1933 NL Chuck Klein PHI .368, 28 HR, 120 RBI 1925 NL Rogers Hornsby STL .403, 39 HR, 143 RBI 1922 NL Rogers Hornsby STL .401, 42 HR, 152 RBI 1909 AL Ty Cobb DET .377, 9 HR, 107 RBI 1901 AL Nap Lajoie PHA .426, 14 HR, 125 RBI 1887 AA Tip O'Neill STL .435, 14 HR, 123 RBI 1878 NL Paul Hines PRO .358, 4 HR, 50 RBI
  2. Erm, yeah....how about Phil Humber?
  3. 10,000 empty seat today? How's that working out for ya, Randy?
  4. Yep, eventually players would learn. You'd probably have a months full of games where they finish 5-3, with 4 penalties and it finishing 6v6 though. Growing up watching American sports, it came as a real shock when I saw how much abuse referees get from players in English football. If you told an official to "**** off" over here, you'd be kicked out of the game on the spot, maybe even fined.
  5. He was the drummer/singer for a group called The Band back in the 70's. They had a few big hits, including the song I linked, recorded live and made into a film by Martin Scorcese.
  6. Another great talent gone
  7. Opinion is mixed on BV....everybody basically agrees he talks too much, and too loosely. And if you do that in Boston, you're gonna get in trouble. And he has. But people didn't take too kindly to Pedroia's comments about "That's not how we do things here"...people think he was stepping out of line...and really, the way they've been "doing things" the last few years has been a joke, so Pedroia's name has taken a knock, too. The consensus is is that the players will view BV as a lame duck, as he's only on a 2 year contract...If they brought in a LaRussa type on a 5 year deal, players would have to respect that. It was a miscalculation by the FO to hire BV as a "bridge" manager...unless they just wanted someone to take attention away from the fact that the team isn't going to contend for shit for the next couple of years.
  8. Any chance you guys want Piers Morgan and Martin Bashir back?
  9. Granderson 5/5 with 3 HR's tonight  Gave my other fantasy team a real shot in the arm
  10. Some fantastic American Civil War photographs Just scroll down the page
  11. I've been banging the Umbro drum for years...would love an Umbro kit for Villa again
  12. Not only did Lerner appoint him, he PAID for the "privilege"! :x  :bonk:  :wow:
  13. utterly lacking in context and can only help propogate the 'you started it first' 'no, you did' 'no, you did' quality of debate this usually kicks off (for the record, both the Israeli's and the Palestinians deserve to be treated as humans with rights, families and aspirations) The Army suspended him today, so the brass deemed him to be in the wrong...seems cold cocking someone in the teeth with your rifle is considered bad form even by Israeli Army standards...
  14. A tip of the hat to the doctors...pretty amazing that he walked out of there today...
  15. Apparently just a gag by the designers...the characters will be human

  17. I think we stay up, but if Lerner and his flunky decide to stick with McLeish, I'll have lost all hope. With him around, it's only a matter of "when" we get relegated... I've been following Villa for 18 years, and this is the worst I've seen things. Bar far the worst. This season was the first time I didn't get the football package on my cable account, because I knew it'd be a waste of time and money. I'm angry that they're pushing me away
  18. I predicted 4-0...should've put some money down

    Quiz!

"World Ranking"....the whole thing could be flawed as far as I know...and based on some of the rankings...it probably is.
  20. I primary indictor could be skin tone, as many African slaves mixed with Carib, Taino and Arawak Indians, as well as Europeans. So a huge population of black West Indians have lighter skin than Africans. Same as black Americans. But those that don't have much or any mixed blood will look just like West Africans. No difference.
  21. A lot of them have that wispy sideburn area hair, too. Not an attractive thing. That said, some of the most stunning women I've ever laid eyes on have been Indian.
