  1. They're releasing "Empire Total War Gold Edition", which is Mac-friendly...all their releases get good reviews...does anyone play them, and if so, what do you like/dislike about them?
  2. Losing our first 2 games was probably a blessing in disguise, cuz Lerner is opening up the pursestrings now...If we beat West Ham and drew with Everton, Lerner would probably have been content to rest on his laurels. I just hope the new signings are of a decent standard who can really contribute and improve the team.
  3. Downing can rot on their bench as far as I'm concerned, he's shown us what he's all about. Another productive season with Villa, and hell be looking to move again. clearing in the woods.
  4. Charlton fans rate him, but think he's not quiet ready for the Premiership. But he fits the profile- young, cheap, with upside...but are these types of signings going to start winning us games now? I'm glad to see real links this week, but Dale Stephens? I'm starting to worry...
  5. If that is true, then I am abso-****-lutely STAGGERED. And saddened. And appalled. The other astounding news to me from this thread is that there are people who didn't realise there was more than one moon landing. What. The. ****??? Don't people learn this in school? It's up there with Columbus FFS. The public school system in the US is a total disgrace. For a top industrial, developed nation, the schooling in general is shit. The parenting is shit. Intellectualism is scoffed at, and university is increasingly out of the reach of the middle class. We've got a generation of people raised on Cheez Wiz, Diet Coke and cable TV, not books and maps. Another thing to note is that more and more of the population are from a cultural background for whom Neil Armstrong means very little, if anything, and that can be applied to many benchmarks of American history. People just do not have the knowledge.
  6. Something I don't like about football broadcasts is the scarcity of shots of the crowd, and people of interest in the crowd.
  7. I think Johnson was behind it all. He despised JFK, and brought him down to Texas to ambush him. I don't think the mob was involved, I don't think Castro was involved, or the Soviets...I think it was just a Coup d'etat, a power grab. And I'm convinced the truth will come out before I kick the bucket.
  8. The scary thing is, based on what we've seen so far, 2 signings will not be enough. Hopefully our man in Germany has a few diamonds in the rough for us...
  9. Didn't know that we actually put that kind of an instrument up there. Now there's only the JFK conspiracy that I still think might be true, but that's for another thread, perhaps. R.I.P., mr. Armstrong. One true legend. Rest forever among the stars where you belong. Good to hear that he seems to have been a very humble guy too. Which JFK conspiracy theory do you speak of?
  10. If Lerner doesn't release some cash this week, it means one of three things- 1. He's put the club in an attractive position for a potential buyer 2. He doesn't care 3. He's a **** idiot
  11. It just skimmed over the Keys, didn't do much damage at all...now it looks like it'll pick up speed in the Gulf before it hits land...
  12. He's got that annoying habit that NRC used to have, ie keep hold of the ball at all costs until you run into an opposing player and lose it. NRC used to run in a straight line, N'Zogbia is a bit more mazy, but the end result is the same. He keeps his head down too much as well, which is maddening. And far too often his first touch is a lousy one. He may have been good once upon a time, but he's crap now, and I can't see him getting any better at this point.
  13. Almost as bad as this classic: The fact that he's American makes it even more funny. I agree, it's so much more funny because he's from the United States.
  14. really wanted to say this, but dont want to derail the thread would love to be a yank to get their perspective, struggling to think of an english equivalent but he's a huge figure and i can only imagine how massive his death is over there I get the impression he's a bit of an enigma to most Americans, not greedy, not brash, not a self publicist, just a quiet reluctant hero, who did walk on the moon. Sadly, most Americans under the age of 35 probably don't even know who he is. But he was the genuine article, and he's well respected for that, and his modesty. It's front page news nationwide of course.
  15. Top class gent, and a pioneering space hero. Big loss, but what a life! R.I.P.
  16. Haha, good enough...welcome aboard!
  17. Just watched it...that was worse than the West Ham match... Simply not nearly good enough in all aspects. Shocker by Given, I think he's still a bit hungover from his Euro debacle...maybe it's time to give Guzan a game. Despite the spectacular strike from KEA, he didn't do much else, nor did anyone else really. Baker and Herd were decent, but that's about it. They aren't playing with confidence, and it's plain to see. We have no teeth and the players look a little confused even. Teams will be licking their lips at the prospect of playing us unless we bring in some quality signings. That's what it comes down to for me. Without a few new quality players, it's going to be a long slog of a season that might even just end in disaster.
  18. I think people need to stop the hand wringing and allow the next week to run it's course. I think it's a lock we get at LEAST two more players in.
  19. Red Sox trade Gonzalez, Crawford and Beckett to the Dodgers in massive salary dump
  20. Good post. Not really. It's the same reductio ad absurdam argument that the pro-gun lobby always uses. You know, "If you allow this, they'll come for your children next". Utter nonsense. BUT, as I've said in other threads, no matter how obvious, sensible and correct a gun ban would be, it is simply impractical in the USA, and will not happen. It's a good post in that it he's clued in to the complexity of the issue and isn't caught up in rhetoric and posturing from either side of the debate.
