    Los Angeles

There should be cabs queued up outside your hotel day and night who will take you wherever you ask them to...less stressful than navigating yourself, but more expensive. Angelinos go everywhere in cars, thetrees apparently hasn't visited Boston, NYC, Chicago, Seattle, San Fran, etc. etc.... It's Los Angeles, so you'll find plenty of great restaurants with perfectly normal portions and fine service despite the silly generalization above There is great live music there, so check local papers/websites to see if anything interests you. You could take in a Dodgers game...drive to Burbank and catch the Tonight Show...

    Los Angeles

Public transport is virtually nil in LA...I'd either rent a car or take a cab from the airport. Taking a cab will eliminate the chances of taking a wrong exit into dodgy parts of town... I'd personally want to stay out of an airport hotel as long as possible, regardless of potential seediness (and Hollywood is).... But if you have little ones in tow, that's a different story. Plenty of good eateries in Santa Monica
  3. Hehe, when the shoe is on the other foot, Spurs trolls are nowhere near VT!
  4. Some terrible calls on balls and strikes by the ump when he was at bat

    Dogs...

Of course, but if you have to leave him for 5 hours...you might as well get the dog comfortable in a crate, as opposed to anxious and tearing your furniture apart.
  6. Bale is a rare type of player- power, speed, strength, finesse, and youth. He's spent the last two years demolishing opposition foreign and domestic...I think he's deserving of the accolades.

    Dogs...

I'd get a dog crate for those 5 hour stretches. Get him trained in them early on, even when you're home.
  8. Surprised Dempsey has gone back to MLS...he didn't live up to expectations at Spurs, but he's still relatively young, and good enough to play for most clubs in the Premier League...and you'd think he could play for a club that would pay him more than Seattle...

    Do you read?

This. Yeah, that one looks good, Levi. I'll be in Harvard Square on Friday, I think I'll hit the Coop and look for that one.
  10. It's a shameful situation, and another stain on this country's reputation. And the fact that Obama has NO balls and hasn't shown the will to shut the whole horrible thing down is a damn disgrace. When Obama won in 2008, he had a democrat majority in the House and Senate with a mandate from voters to close Guantanamo, among many other things. He could have closed the place down within a year. He's a fraud and a failure, and will go down in history as such.
  11. That's why he used the term "on paper", I think.
  12. Do you think training bras for men are ridiculous?
  13. It's probably a show of solidarity with the "Go Home" billboard campaign Cameron has instigated
  14. He wasn't far off the mark

"Handicapped" is now a bad word, eh? I suppose "Disabled" is the acceptable term...for now. Such an embarrassment, it's fantastic

    Do you read?

Maine? Surely you have to read a King? Nah, I read tons of his stuff years ago. I really liked "It". But I'm more interested in non-fiction these days. Most fiction is total crap.

    Do you read?

Lucky to see this thread on the first page again... I'm taking a couple of weeks off and going to Maine at the end of August. I'd like to start and finish a book while I'm up there. I need some good suggestions for non-fiction books that aren't too wonky.
  20. Yeah, I NEVER would have thought I'd see a Villa match from Villa Park on regular old NBC. Totally mind boggling.
