  1. At least the Stones properly credited the Black artists whose songs they recorded early on, unlike the thieving Led Zeppelin who had the arrogance to try to claim them as their own.
  2. Really? Then credit the Stones for a nice bit of wry term coinage, regardless of other connotations, properly inferred or otherwise. Curious if you'd read that somewhere, that this is a term they came up with? I know that area has been historically hardscrapple, so the term would seem like it's been around for a while. Anyway, if some people deem it racistly offensive, it wouldn't be the first time the Stones have triggered people that way. The lyrics to Brown Sugar are really cringe inducing, as are a few other lyrics in their catalogue. Shame, because Brown Sugar musically is a real barn burner. As for the new album, if the single sucks, it's likely the rest does too. They should've hired Dan Auerbach to produce the album. He produced one of Dr. John's last albums, and it was really solid. It was a throwback to his swampy 60's bayou stuff. Grimy and atmospheric. Perhaps Auerbach could've conjured the spirit of Exile on Main Street.
  3. A quick interweb search shows that 70% of Hackney ward is white people...
  4. I'm sure nobody there is losing sleep over it. And I'm assuming the nickname stems from when it was full of pale people?
  5. No, I expected it to be terrible. But it's the Stones, so out of respect, you give it a listen. It sounds like they wanted a "Keith riff" to build on, but when it's super contrived like that, it's bound to fail. And the second verse is an absolute calamity. Notably, the drum sound is obviously not Charlie, and it's distracting. It's an approximation of his high hat technique, which is what I find offensive (the Hackney Diamonds meaning doesn't bother me at all). The snare sound is the dead giveaway that it's not Charlie. (Also that erm, Charlie is dead). I might have to go listen to Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out to cleanse my ears.
  6. Rolling Stones have a new album. First one in 18 years. I heard the single, it's terrible.
  7. Anything less than 3 points here will be pretty depressing. If we have any designs on Champions League, we have to get maximum points vs sides like this.
  8. Julian Alvarez Nuno Gomes Keisuke Honda Wagner Love
  9. Good for Anwar if true. They need players of good character there.
  10. Can someone please explain to me what's going on with AEG? I can't find anything.
  11. Well, I'm feeling better after reading Jason Kelce's comments. He thinks Travis will play. Question is, how much and how effectively?
  12. Same. In fact, I went for TE early, and DEF too. I got tired of streaming these positions.
  13. I'm pretty sure Villa already had a Video Recorder room. It was pretty common technology at the time. Not sure if they had a Rewinder on the payroll, but a lot of clubs did pay specialists to rewind match videotape.

I hope they keep turning down Saudi because if they did sell Salah to them for a mini fortune (as they should), they'd be well positioned to make a run at Man City again for the next several years if they spend the money smartly.
  15. Would love him back here for a year, even if he never plays much. But Emery isn't about to go sign him.
  16. They even have a (non-Bruno) rodent problem!
  17. I thought Ten Hag was supposed to put a stop to all that and do a proper rebuild with youth, smart recruitment and a few big signings. But he's just doing the same old thing. He probably wanted to do it the right way but felt too much pressure from all angles to win now. Round and round we go.

  19. It's really not pointless. It takes some of his wage burden off us, and it gives him playing time. Better than being saddled with his full wages and an injured player who won't get much playing time when healthy. As for a waste of money, you're mostly right. There were a number of posters on here who took flak for criticizing the signing at the time for being too extravagant and risky for a declining, aging player. As it turns out it was extravagant and risky and for those reasons. However...would Digne and Kamara have signed for us if Phil hadn't? And same for our current new signings...did the prospect of playing with Coutinho make a difference in their considerations? Hard to say, but it surely did not hurt. Anyway, it's all a moot point now. The critical thing now is to find someone to help with wages, and we've done that.
