    Not Sherwood.

    Not Redknapp.

Just about anybody else would be fine.

For 4 months I'd take Sherwood. Back to basics. 442 no messing. Bish bash bosh. You know what you're getting. It's so different to what we've been doing that for that fact alone it's worth a try.
    I wouldn't.

I'd genuinely prefer Lambert to stay.

There are a million managers out there. If Sherwood is really the best we can come up with then god help us.

Tim Sherwood Premier League Record :

    P        W        D        L         F         A              WIN %

    22      13        3        6        40       30             59.09

With better players, yes, but still not bad. I dont really care about a  managers personality as long as he gets results.

  2. I love the Villa with all my heart, i really do.

But im at the point now where im thinking F**k You Lerner, i hope you don't get that TV money. You have gambled for too long now and have no regard for the fans whatsover in the last few years. The only protest (regarding Lambert) that will will hit Lerner hard is if we had a game where only 10000 fans turn up (which wont happen). Hit him in the pocket, he is a business man, thats all that would make him take notice. While 30000 +  crowds keep turning up, he thinks we are quite happy as supporters being served up total crap week after week.

Agree with this. Dont know why he gets so much stick. Did ok at Tottenham and got the best out of Adebayor.

  4. The usual week for a villa fan for the last few months :

Birmingham Mail on Friday - 'The players are well up for this game'

Birmingham Mail on Monday - VILLA REFLECT ON DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT

Watch Lambert laughing and joking in Thursday press conference saying we will be fine

Birmingham Mail on Friday - 'We will get it right this week, we are all in it together'

Birmingham Mail on Monday - 'Poor Villa hammered again'

Watch Lambert laughing and joking in Thursday press conference saying we are creating chances, don't worry.

Birmingham Mail on Friday - 'Time for us all to stand up and be counted'

Birmingham Mail on Monday - 'Spineless Villa beaten again and fail to score'

Watch Lambert laughing and joking as if we are comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

You get the drift, they are just taking the piss. It does really make you wonder if the players are running the dressing room, as Lambert nevers shows any sense of authority and it seems he dropped Cleverley due to fan pressure (which i think was the right decision by the way but shows he has no backbone).

I dont really care who we get in next. Preferably somebody with a good track record, but how can it get any worse, seriously. I would take the Bradford manager at this moment, i seriously would, his players play with a spirit and fight.ANYONE!!!!! IT CAN NOT GET ANY WORSE!

When we've done this in the past - Sutton, Holt etc, I could see the point, they were relatively cheap short term solutions that could help the team and then we could all move on - even with Heskey, he was a year or two younger than Lambert is when he arrived. In essence, I'd be happy enough with Lambert on a free until the end of the season, but with the wages, this is going to cost us more than we paid for Benteke - that can't be a good idea can it?

Forget the money for a second. It's not yours.

Will this help to keep us in the division? The answer to that, for me, is an emphatic yes.

For me I don't really think it'll make a blind bit of difference - he's the fourth best striker at Liverpool and I think you can argue he'd be the fourth best striker here. I guess I just don't rate the player as highly as a lot of people seem to.

I also can't ignore the money - we're putting a dent in the future in order to get a big lump that will give us nothing in particular for three months.

For £100,000 we could employ a lookalike to lurk around the training ground and just tell Benteke we'd signed him - that'd be just as effective surely?

Really don't understand this. He has played less than half the time of Gabby and Weimann, mainly substitute appearances, but he showed us what he can do against us the other week. Cracking goal. We already have a lump upfront that has done nothing in particular for the last few months?

  6. I dont agree with alot of your views mate, but totally agree with this

Rickie Lambert is 33 next week! £5mil is way too much for a very average striker!

Not sure why we are not looking abroad as some good strikers around that mark in the Dutch/Spanish/German leagues!

Lambert would be Grant Holt Mk2 type of signing! Meh

Not sure why people get so hung up on age? He knows where the net is thats for sure. Are you saying you wouldn't take Frank Lampard?

And like Rickie Lambert is in Frank Lampard's class! i'll have whatever your drinking!!

£5mil is a lot for a guy who is 33 next week and is a million quid more than what they paid for him!! he's only scored 2 goals all season!!

Im not saying he is in Lampards class, but people make a huge thing about age. People said the same thing about Robbie Keane when he joined. Im no fan of Paul Lambert, but in this case he can't win. We need a proven striker.  We don't sign a striker then there is uproar. I hope this one comes off.

Yet it's the same group of posters that angrily reply. Interesting..... :detect:

Yet it's ok when people put things like 'waiting for the moaners'.

You just proved his point exactly there.

Of course i did son, of course i did , if it makes you happy

Well his point was that some people seem to be trying to divide the fanbase and I don't see how comments like that help?

It's almost as if some people want there to be a divide. Fact is there is almost universal agreement on Lambert now which is very rare on VT for anything.

Lambert's supporters won't change their mind after that - they seem to revel in the fact that they support him no matter what and play up to the crowd on here.

    Nonsense.

Clearly not nonsense. There is a hardcore of support on here who will back Lambert no matter what shit is served up on the pitch. Now, its their prerogative to do that but I simply can't fathom out why he is above criticism for certain people. I'm genuinely mystified.

The notion that there's a set of hardcore Lambert supporters on this forum is complete rubbish, it simply isn't true. The fact is we're all Villa supporters with differing perspectives on our current situation. So please stop trying to cause a divide by labeling people, it's not necessary.

Believe what you want to believe.

I'm not trying to cause a divide, I'm not that petty. I was merely stating my opinion, which I believe is what we can do on a forum.

You are right we are all Villa fans and want what is best. I'll state my opinion on what I want here - Lambert out of my club. He's proven time and time again he is not cut out for the job. Today was a spineless performance. I can't see where our next goal is coming from, let alone a win.

If there isnt a hardcore support, i really don't understand why certain posters are getting so uptight about it and always play the 'personal' card. Mystifying......

  13. The media don't know anything anyway. Most of our signings come out of nowhere.

Build up support that isn't even there? The support for him is there and plain to see. I'm not going to name the posters as it is against the site rules.

Mantis, if people want to support him that is fine but it baffles me that's all. The posters that do all seem like intelligent people so it is surprising, that's all.  I'm just not sure what Lambert can do which would change their unwavering support of him. There is no need to be so defensive about it. I'm not trying to 'score points' at all

If it's so plain to see then where is? I think I've been through every page in the Paul Lambert thread since the Arsenal game and I think there may have been one message supporting Lambert yet I've seen dozens of people drone on about the support he supposedly retains on here.

I'm going on what has been in the PL thread over the last week or so, not just today.

Given the good week we had last week and the nature of the defeat today it's not exactly surprising that some people might've changed their minds.

He was talking about people supporting Lambert throughout the week, not people changing from supporting him to slating him today.

  14.

How can you defend it useless? Are you really a villa fan?

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/record-breaking-rubbishness-aston-villa-5086775

Yes I'm really a Villa fan. I can't defend where we are as a club, I just don't think it's Lambert's fault. It still bugs me that he hasn't been given an Assistant to work with, it's like he's being asked to carry the whole club on his shoulders.

Lambert said he was quite happy without an assistant, so that is a non starter. When we had assistants before the results were still the same?

  15.

Funny how its the same people that react to the posts and the same people liking them.

I'm only reacting to them because it's blatantly obvious what's going on and I just don't see what people have to gain from it? Lambert is getting virtually no support on here now (and rightly so) so there's absolutely no need to be moaning about other fans that are supposedly supporting him when that simply isn't the case in the real world.

So why are you letting it bother you?

This is a forum where people post opinions - I'm posting my opinion and calling out what I think is basically forced point-scoring.

And some people's opinions are that a select few have blind faith in Lambert. There is no problem with that.

I don't think it matters who we sign with Lambert in charge.

But at least we would know for sure. Sign a couple of experienced quality players then Lambert has nowhere to hide.

He'd still be immune from criticism for some people!  :)

Ah yes, the people that are supposedly backing Lambert to the hilt yet very few if any have actually come out and publicly supported him this evening.

This whole attempt by some people to build up support for Lambert that doesn't actually exist just so they can have a moan at fellow fans is really getting on my nerves.

Funny how its the same people that react to the posts and the same people liking them.

  18. Paul Lambert will lead us into Europe. Paul Lambert is not at fault here. Paul Lambert will lead us to glory. Paul Lambert is not at fault here. The FA are against us. The Premier League is against us. Paul Lambert will defeat the enemy and restore our faith in football.

You think he will do this before he hits 60?

  19. I don't dislike Lambert either. In fact, I'm annoyed and disappointed most because I genuinely believe that he is capable of delivering much more for us.

Unfortunately, he's lost his way and appears to be sinking. It also frustrates me greatly, as one of the few that's still willing to give him the time of day, that he shoots himself in the foot so often.

He must know his post-match interviews wind people up. Too little, too late when it comes to subs. Persisting with a play book that has shown itself to be ineffective - he's got to have better awareness when the results aren't going his way.

This 'slump' is something special though. We're relying on Gil and Sinclair to inject something new into the team, but PL needs to work out an effective formation and line-up asap. At the risk of repeating myself again, if we can't get it right in open play, we need to be seeing inventive corners, free kicks and throw-ins not only for the chances they will create, but also to show the fans that there is some tactical nous within the camp.

Surely the best signing we could make if Lambert is to stay, would be to employ a master-tactician as his assistant?

    Best post of the day.

I like Lambert as a man. He genuinely comes across as a nice bloke, hardworking and you can really tell he wants to make it work at Villa.

I admire that he hasnt walked away (but wish he would  :) ) and has the balls for a fight. But it's just not working.
