  1. I’ll have the french one seeing as #announcemings worked.....also #announcepique
  2. Sometimes I don’t feel hardship is as bad as it used to be.....paid millions to sit on my butt in Paris p.s. I know what you mean though
  3. I think we are after the best goalkeeper we could possibly get. I think many people realise that a goalkeeper is probably the key position and it makes even a bigger difference when you are a bottom half of the team. Even for Liverpool, the difference of having Alisson Becker last season was huge. So for us, that will be underdogs, in most games next season and be bombarded most games, we need the best goalkeeper we can get. In terms of whether that was a 20m or 10m goalkeeper was never in my thoughts, it was about the best we could get. Butland for some reason was being valued by reports at 20m but for me I dont care who it is, we have to get the best we can get i.e. who would come to us. If that is 20m Butland or 10m Heaton or whoever, I trust who Smith wants. It did seem for some long (according to the press and ITKs) that it was Butland.
  4. Still think this isn’t closed. I think we’ve probably told them an offer as our final offer and Stoke said no so we have leaked this. Puts pressure on Stoke as player says they want to leave and if Bournemouth have only offered 12m then are they serious/able to pay the higher fee. If not then we are the only serious player and losing out on 20m and having an unhappy player isn’t good. Also pressure on Butland to push the move his end because he could be stuck, unhappy at a club. If that is what we are doing then good move by Villa. Or we could just have another option or even a GK we otherwise wanted has now become available who wasn’t available before.
  5. Winter was also a bit brief and disappointing in the end. Hope that isn’t the case here as well
  6. It’s getting real quiet on transfers for us when our main conversation is Jansson going to Brentford is the main talking point
  7. Is there any serious links with Cahill or is this because he’s a free agent and an ex Villa player? I’ve read a lot of chatter between us fans but can’t recall any non-blacklisted links
  8. Great, so that gets us back to level on last season.....all sorted! Oh wait, we have moved up a league and thus quality and can’t afford to be only as good as last season. We need more quality otherwise relegation is on the cards
  9. To avoid the nerves, I’m trying to focus and be intrigued about the players we haven’t been linked with yet and maybe foreign players I’ve never heard of. Wes was out of the blue and apart from YouTube clips and some people that has seen him, he’s an unknown quantity. Maybe a defensive enforcer like Melberg or something, hopefully less Salifou like.....
  10. Not quite true. I’ve been involved in multi-million dollar transactions in the software industry and moves by the client and/or competitors has influenced dynamics of the transaction both early in the process and late in the process.
  11. I agree, while I’m nervous and frustrated we aren’t more advanced in our acquisitions. I’m also nervous our 1st choice options won’t come to us. I’m not nervous about the spend, I think we have the money available to spend what we need.
  12. I'm starting to get seriously worried already. As has been said we have a lot of business to do and only four weeks (give or take) to do it. I knew I would get nervous this early and I knew I shouldnt be but I am. I thought we wouldve got Mings and Butland in by now (or equivalents) and that is why I am as nervous as I am. 2 CB, 1 GK and 1 DM positions are the heart of our defence and yes there are back ups in Hause and co but that doesnt fill me with confidence having all those positions with back up players. I believe in Smith, Suso etc but Jeez a couple of signings quickly would help my nerves please.
  13. If any issue we can just say we valued Villa Park at just under 3 Danny Ings......surely nobody would say we overvalued then
  14. Re Delfouneso, I just never seen anything that suggested to me that he would make any real impression to the first XI. He was a good young player and if I remember correctly he won young player of year award but I always felt that he was always destined to be sold to a championship/league one team. I think how you explained Bannan is how I felt about Delfouneso.
  15. Love this site as it really brings up different opinions. I never thought Delfouneso was ever going to make it and I watched him a lot in the non-first team games. Bannon was another I had no time for either and if I’m correct you were a big fan of his. It’s all about opinions but really is interesting to try and see what others see in players. I used to love Savo but I knew how split the Villa base were on him but one of my fondest memories supporting the Villa was his goal at Wembley.
  16. Welcome Matt, nothing takes the Gloss off this signing
  17. Agreed and could give us the option of three at the back for some games to utilise Targett’s crossing ability while remaining solid at the back
  18. I do worry that that team will be over run in midfield easily. We'll have quality going forwards but outside of back four we have Phillips and potentially McGinn with IMO the other four being less defensive and while this is ok against lower teams in the Premier League, we'll get smashed by top half of the table teams more often than not. We are going from one of the best teams in the championship to one of the lesser teams in the Premier League. I think we need to have formation options depending on the teams as well, as those wings will be easy to destroy by opposing teams if El Ghazi and Benrahma dont track back well enough.
  19. ......if he can do it in the premier league. Not saying he cant but we dont know if he can step up to the next level. I'm really hoping he can but I can also imagine in 12 months time where he isnt getting a game and 50m (or more like (30m) wouldve been a steal from Man Utd. I would choose to keep him obviously but everybody is assuming he's going to be as influential in the premier league as he was in the championship......it's a massive step up in quality and hopefully he can but so many players down the years havent.
  20. I have to say, I dont want McGinn to go but just like we are turning heads of players at lower teams, McGinn's head could turn if Man Utd are interested in him. We have mega rich owners but if a players head did turn then he'd have to go (not saying McGinn has) but 50m for a player that hasnt played in the premier league before would be incredible (although very hard to replace). Our rose tinted glasses would disagree because we love him and have seen him in action but just as we are arguing that championship players arent worth XXX amount (generally 20m) that we are looking for, we must realise that McGinn has only the same experience and played at the same level as them (although successfully). Dont want him to go at any price and feel we have the owners to push away any offer but if any truth in it we just have to hope that McGinn's head does turn.
  21. I went for 12th. Outside the top 8 or 10, there are all much of a muchness so if we can get a decent squad together then for once I'm going to be optimistic but also recognise we'll have some stinkers but we'll be ok. I think bizarrely the Sheff Utd boss made me more confident when he was discussing signings and said Norwich and them would be competing for transfers but Villa are in a different league in regards to transfers. I believe in Smith and with some good purchases he'll get us between top of the best of the rest and relegation candidates hence 12th place seems a good guess.
  22. Well I just got my Shrewsbury and Walsall tickets after the extra allocation so Villa have 3.5 weeks to get the team ready, all players brought, match fit and looking brilliant otherwise I wont be happy because as my family says to me, the world revolves around me
