  1. I know Juve need the cash but damn... Any word on his wages? I can't imagine he was desperate to sample a north east relegation struggle.
  2. I don't think anyone has said he's too proven for us. At all. He's not in line with our current transfers and if we did sign him then we wouldn't be sticking to our own philosophy which IMO, despite having the positive of signing a good player like Ba, would be a net negative as his wages would effect morale and unity in the squad.
  3. Wasn't that the guy who said Honda would be the next Holman?
  4. We should get Daniel Levy to tell them to lower their valuation. Failing that we could offer them £2m plus Hutton.
  5. He is a very good striker but if the only thing we concerned ourselves with was ability irrespective of cost (or age or anything else) then we'd be back where O'Neill had us. Short-term gain for long-term pain. I, for one, am glad Lambert has a longer-term plan for this club. It's been too long in coming and long may it continue. Ba is plenty good for our first team but I don't want him here for plenty of other reasons. I see where you are coming from and I love Lamberts approach of signing young hungry players. But don't you think we need some experienced players in the team? Btw in the O'Neil days the ability of most of his signings was questionable to. We're just not going to sign big club's cast offs on big club's wages anymore. Thankfully.
  6. Benteke's TR isn't representative of our entire position is it? His low wages, 3 year contract and desire to play in the WC may have some sway too don't you think? Can the ignore function be added to the mobile app please.
  7. I hope you're all right. Obviously selling Given would be ideal but a season off from paying his wages would be the next best thing.
  8. Doncaster won't pay a goalkeeper 50 grand a week. The entire squad earn about £160k a week atm.
  9. No I mean the old metabolism argument. I've seen fat people eat relatively little and still remain fat. Of course, if they went on an intense exercise regime (military training for instance) they would most definitely still lose weight, so the general principle holds - but it does seem that some people need to exercise more than others, or eat less than others, in order to achieve the same amount of weight loss. That's true of everything that everyone does though. People are different and as differences go basal metabolic rates are not very different at all. The standard deviation of BMR is about 5% (and that's without taking age, height or total lean body mass into consideration). That means that 2sds is 10% so 96% of the population are within 10% of the population average for BMR.
  10. As much as share your annoyance I hope he doesn't quit, he just needs to move back to 205. Last time I saw him in person he must have weighed ~230lbs and he was in good shape. 185lb is a ridiculous weight for a guy that size, he looked at death's door during the weigh ins. I think he wants to fight at MW because he doesn't think he has the chin for LHW though so it's probably catch 22 in his mind.
  11. 4.05 IIRC. Just over 3/1 or +305 depending on what system you use.
  12. Yeah I guess it depends on perspective. I've got a power cage at home now but when I went to a commercial gym and I never saw anybody else squat with more than 120kg. And 50% of people in the weights bit were Mr. Chest only they weren't benching anything like 250kg.
  13. I got very good odds this time around (covered my unsuccessful accumulators for this card and 161 & my bet on Hendo). I saw it reported some places are starting Weidman at evens for the rematch, I'll wait until it drifts first I think.
  14. I agree that this would be Haye's best option but does he really need to box intelligently? The punches (and KO rates of the fighters) that have put Fury on his arse to date suggest to me that fighting the same fight he did against Valuev would result in a fairly short fight.
  15. Upon investigation it seems that Carson was too ill to even be at his own trial today so nothing happened. *circus music*
  16. At the risk of starting the much maligned and often (rightly) ridiculed game of 'How much can you lift on the Internet' what are your PRs mark? And at what BW?
  17. Stating body weight excercises work out "your core" as a benefit in a debate between bw and bb implies that you don't think bb excercises do. Squatting with 1.5x BW on your back works your core a shit lot more than any amount of the jumping one legged inverted reverse crossover bw version. The way forward depends on the intended destination. If that destination is Swole city then a LP routine with weights is the most efficient way forward.
  18. It seems very inefficient though. When you consider how easily a barbell routine can provide a linear progression of resistance it seems silly to do a body weight 'equivalent' with only two real levels of difficulty (one arm/leg or two) and think you're getting bang for your buck. I wouldn't include varying ROM as different levels of difficulty as purposefully reducing ROM is wasting your time really. One arm chin ups for example are not a viable option for almost everyone in the whole world either IMO. I can do 8 chin ups with 25kgs added and I can't get close to a single one arm rep. Using variations instead of LP is a bit of a strange one as well. It seems like you are just learning the technique of 20 different push-ups/squats/sit-ups rather than really progressing strength wise.
  19. Can anyone actually do one arm pull ups though?
  20. His only chance? Really? Do you remember last weekend when he won using something completely different? Grappling is his best chance, not his only one. Now Weidman's striking has got Silva's respect I expect his likelihood of landing takedowns to go up as well, not down. Silva will use vaguely the same tactics, he'll shake his head, clap his hands, stamp his feet and call him on and try as hard as possible to disengage from any grappling at all. Obviously I would never count him out, that would be silly. He's Anderson **** Silva for feck's sake. I definitely wouldn't have him as favourite though. Last time I was 55:45 in favour of Weidman, now that I know he has the potential to cause problems on the feet as well I'd say I was more like 65:35.
  21. I'm not sure I agree. He hasn't been hit cleanly by anyone with real KO power for a pretty long time (Chael is powerful but he's an arm puncher). Punch resistance fades with years of training too, especially the way the old Chute Box team train. I rate his boxing in terms of it being very good considering striking is by far the weakest aspect of his game. It's not so much his boxing being good that means he doesn't throw LRLR, it's his coach. Ray Longo has now masterminded both GSP and AS's only KO losses, which is **** impressive in my book. Silva's antics weren't a selfless attempt at entertaining at the expense of his own chances like a few of the MMA bloggers seem to think IMO, he's done the same thing several times before because it works for him. He's an awkward counter striker with long limbs who thrives on frustrating opponents into attacking, taking risks and leaving openings. I think Longo sussed his bob and weave out and got Weidman to double up his punches to catch him. Chris Weidman being such a stud on the mat and having a great gameplan on the feet decided the match.
