Barbatov is a similar player to Bent imho. A very very good finisher but isnt going to work for you across the pitch. Also berbatov smokes like a chimney which doesnt bode well for any athlete. For me these older players should be loan targets. Our purchases should be younger players.

The Bent saga is baffling. There must be something here we dont know. i wonder if he has already been sold, or we are very close to a deal so lambert isnt playing him to avoid injury?

I admit it was my ignorance mostly. But at the time I desperately wanted us to sign another midfielder so a young lad from the Republic in a position that was not my top priority made me facepalm. If it helps I thought Benteke was a bad signing as well so my record is pretty damn poor

I facepalmed when we signed him, but fair play, he has done well. A decent McLeish signing, glad to see him doing good.

Or both. He can be backed and get in a loan or two. My opinion is he will be backed strongly again in the transfer market. I saw the presser, not sure Keane is coming (I would welcome him btw), but it is so un-Lambert like I would be surprised.

Bent will play against Arsenal I reckon. I can see Lambert playing a narrow two up front Bent & Benteke and going diamond in the midfield.

We could get some old timers on loan but not to buy. For buying I want the usual Lambert style signings (young hungry, will get better) OR a superstar signing coming into his peak. Nothing in between for me. That luke warm middle ground of expensive second teir Premier league players is somethign we have tried in the past. It didnt work. -
I have zero doubts he will dip into his pocket in January again. It wouldnt surprise me if we ended up spending close to 40 million this season all in. Lets just hope Lambert spends wisely (and I think he has so far but obviously the results say otherwise).

I would have no problem with him. A young hungry player could do well for us. It is either this kind of player or a proven superstar is the kind of signing I would like. Anything in between like B level premier league players or ones that are past it are just pointless imho. Loans excluded obviously.

Christ I dont even want to look. I have seen lots of numbers the past two days. The most worrying are comparisions of teams that were in the bottom three after this many games vs ones who went down. Its not good, none of it is good. I just want us the hell out of this zone. But that will take a running win of games and I cant remember the last time that happened. Damn this has been a long hard few years hasnt it? ugh.

Unfortunately correct. We have used up a lot of our margin for error. Getting points now is a matter of pure survival. Not much fun I am afraid, we just need to get points immediately before we get cut adrift from our relegation rivals.

Hmm I disagree with that a bit, the Bent panic buy was excellent and has paid off handsomely. Even if he never plays another game for us and we sell him for nothing we have more than got our moneys worth. He kept us in the league. Another panic buy like that would suit me just fine right about now.

I have no doubt Lerner will spend and spend big in January. I just hope we have time and breathing room enough to stay up even with strengthening.
