  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/20879287 "Reading have signed Sporting Lisbon captain Daniel Carrico." Our relegation rivals first out of the gate with the kind of player we need. edit: beaten by jacketspuds
  2. He should have known as it was blindly obvious that we needed midfielders and more midfielders. To be fair to him out of the two he bought they arent bad but we needed more, much more.
  3. Actually I think lambert has been given another 20 Actually I think he has been given another 20M. But even if it was 10M that would be very generous. Lerner keeps spending like a top half owner. Its a shame our CEO, managers and players have conspired to be a bottom half side.
  4. "Lerner, the Villa owner, suffered a painful afternoon on a rare visit on Saturday and must have wondered whether his £22 million outlay in the summer had been money well spent. It is often overlooked that Lambert was in the top six spenders but this transfer window will ultimately decide whether he emerges from this campaign with his reputation intact." I think thats a very fair comment from that Telegraph article. Lerner has always spent more and more money. At some point he has to think "sod it". I know I would.
  5. Madness. Even before the past three games it was obvious we needed midfield signings in January.
  6. Two days away from the window being open and no leaks about who we are buying yet? I really hope we are just being good at keeping our cards close to our chest. We should have 2 signings done and ready for the first day of the window with another 3 or 4 in process.
  7. We are well within our rights to mock any fan who does not support Aston Villa. They are either glory hunters or small club no hopers. Only Aston Villa has true fans. This truth is self evident.
  8. Actually Norwich could do us a favour and sue Lambert again, he seems to have dropped off considerably since it was resolved
  9. I dont know where our next win comes from. Assuming we lose to Swansea (and I think we have to) we will be in the bottom three during the transfer window which will make us less even less appealing to possible transfers. Bloody hell what a mess.
  10. Te be fair to fellow Villa fans, calls to sack Lambert if we lose at home to Wigan would be completely reasonable imho. What would that be? Worse start in how many seasons? If anything it is astonishing how firmly we have all been behind the new manager. I remain a Lambert supporter but the results speak for themselves, he has not hit the ground running. I think it will all come good but I certainly respect those fans who think enough is enough.
  11. This is the correct answer, has been for two seasons now. I had hoped KEA & Westwood would be good enough to help shoulder that load but they arent , at least yet, we need more.
  12. I still reckon thats what he will get to spend. I genuinely believe he has been heavily backed by Lerner and has chosen to spend gradually over two windows.
  13. He has said in interviews these are the kinds of players he likes and he wont change. I take him at his word. He doesnt strike me as the kind of guy who gets strong armed, he has his budget and he can spend it as he sees fit. Personally i like the kinds of players he buys in general, I cant deny though it would be nice to see an occasional marquee signing, although in retrospect Benteke perhaps was one.
  14. I think he will, but he will use the money his way. he is not going to change. Actually I think he will get an extra 20 million even if he sells nobody.
  15. I think its also possible Lamberts Villa will dip in the second half of the season just like McLeishes Villa did. Its been a perplexing year for us. I honestly thought after McLeish left we would be back on our way up the table. Silly I know but thats what I thought. Instead things have got worse results wise but I feel a bit better about our manager. It remains baffling to me how we have now gone for nearly two years with midfield being our clear and obvious weakness and yet it is still not resolved.
  16. You know, that was terrible. Not sure how many times these players can take being setup to get kicked in the balls by top teams, not sure how much of it I can take. I hate to say it but Lambert needs to play to frustrate top six teams, hit em on the counter. We just are not good enough to go at them.
  17. I had forgotten about that one. To be fair to him I was happy to see our CEO looking up, not down. But yeah, in retrospect he did look a bit daft.
  18. Maybe, but we would still refer more often to much worse things like relegation or losing a cup final due to biased refereeing.
  19. Are you saying Chelsea have not progressed and are on a par with us because they have progressed the same as us? Its a weird argument. Obviously the league is most important by a long shot, but a nice little cup run is a positive development in any context, particularly beating Man City along the way. Put it the other way, if we had been knocked out by Swindon surely that would have been regarded as a negative? I know I would have thought it was.
  20. Well we are 16th at Christmas so I guess we are safe. We could be 18th by goal difference on Boxing day after Christmas I guess. I may start to be worried again if we get beat by Spurs & Wigan. Till then I shall remain feeling smug in the progress I see in the team. My rose tinted glasses are still firmly on.
  21. I dont think he is clueless, just stubborn in his insistence to try and win every single game. The pluses of that are we can get a scalp or two, the negatives are we can get bloody trashed to high hell. He reminds me a bit of Wenger in his stubborness to be honest. Frustrating and delightful in equal measure. The good news is yesterday in the post match interview he took responsibility for the defeat, which he should.
  22. Course it does. We ran into the European Champions who have significantly strengthened since last season and we played very poorly. This is on the back of us meeting an average Liverpool and us playing very well. We compounded the problem by consistently pushing forward to score. That last bit I dont hold against lambert or the team by the way. We all moaned to high heaven last year when we surrendered games, well yesterday we didnt, we kept pushing and got destroyed. I know it is illogical but I still like our team and support lambert even after yesterday, perhaps more so. Silly but there you are, I like this Villa team and manager.
  23. He was the only player with the balls to face the press after the game. I appreciate that at least.
  24. Poor kid. he does get thrown into the fire doesnt he?
