  1. For the purposes of the TV I could get on board with that. Book Sansa is one of my least favourite characters so to have her as some sort of avenging angel works brilliantly - especially if she uses her lying/deception skills to cry a lot and say it was her mothers ghost or something.
  2. As villa4europe said the aging up is a big thing too. Arya is 9 Sansa 13 John Snow 16 Robb Stark 18/19 Joffrey is 14/15 You get the picture.
  3. Too many to put in a post but essentially the show is much much more efficient. They have replaced some characters with ones you already know to make it easier to follow. They so far have cut entire characters and plot lines again to be more efficient and squashed several characters together. Its makes sense what they've done for TV but it lacks the depth and complexity of the books.
  4. The only thing I can offer is from my own experience. I had two choices. Law Degree or History. Law had been the thing for 3/4 years before and then changed at the last minute to do history because I knew I'd enjoy it - even if it wasn't as valuable. Media studies is a bit of a wanky waste of time IMO. If he is interested in media Journalism would be more useful I suppose. That said - its all nonsense really. A mate of mine got a 3rd in Electronic Music from Aber.....wyth(?!) uni and is currently earning a small fortune as a Senior Programmer for the Royal Mint.....so..... yeah.
  5. There is a little part of me that oopes part of this season does drag a bit. Having had to plod through A Feast for Crowzzzzzzzzzzz and the simply ballachingly dull you "TV" people with your real tits and flashy CGI stuff should swallow a bit or boredom too. /grumpy
  6. If I want to see pictures of you with your arm round an enormous bellend I'll just fire up our home movie collection.
  7. the argument is that you are paying £100bn not to have to face that firing squad No, the firing squad is still there (unless eveyone multilaterally disarms tomorrow). Russia, North Korea etc. The difference being that whilst the firing squad is there, you also have a gun aimed at them. So everyone is in a mexican standoff. The £100bn guarantees a couple of guns rather than bananas.
  8. The McLeish/Lambert years were some of the worst in living memory Were they? We've been a 3rd division team in "living memory". - being a bit shit in the PL is nothing compared with relegation and lower league football. No its not been good but lets not exaggerate here.
  9. On the subject of nukes one of the "nuke everyone boys" tests used by the Royal Navy is frighteningly simple. If Navy personnel on our 4 nuclear submarines are unable to pick up the Today programme for 4 consecutive days and they know for certain their radio equipment is functioning correctly - they have permission to start swinging with the ICBMs. (This may have changed since digitisation and the internets but the notion that some Admiral launching bombs because he can't hear John Humphries is quite amusing really)

  11. Fag packet maths ahoy. Making the following assumptions 25,000 ST holders Every ST holder pays £400 Every game is a sell out. Remaining 10,016 tickets at Upton Park selling for £30 a pop every game 22 home games a season West Ham pull in £16,6 from gate reciepts at Upton Park. The Olympic Stadium basked on the same assumptions including the 25% reduction and allowing a generous 10,000 increase in ST holders will net them £ 23.04m Yep. generous owners putting fans first. Disclaimer - yes its very crude. yes it doesn't account for an increase in running costs or the purchase of the stadium and yes my maths is notoriously ropey..... the intention is to show that a reduction in price + the free advertising and wall to wall media coverage makes the "gesture" more than worthwhile for WH.
  12. Especially given they regularly advertise match day tickets on the radio dahn saaaath for £10 an adult.
  13. He's the Colombian Darren Bent. Looks incredible in a team set up to provide him and him alone with balls on a plate to knock in. Deeply limited when he's got to do some of the work himself. He's new to the league and it is very different to Spain so that won't have helped either but for me he hasn't shown enough to be considered impressive. Anyone who pays £40m for him needs sectioning.
  14. Yep nailed on. Classic stitch up of an arsehole. "Trust me" shouts notoriously untrustworthy bellend. Good work by Labour that.
  15. Its a chicken and egg situation for me. Can we spend £100bn on nukes when we have 100,000s of people using foodbanks? Or does spending the £100bn ensure that those people are at least alive and suitably radiation free to access foodbanks in the first place? Dunno. On the wider defence issue - reducing spending on defence further is a shit idea IMO. If we want to guarantee strategic and economic interests (eg. Falklands) we need to maintain an effective modern, fit for purpose armed service. My like getting on the free weights at the gym your place in the world is defined by the size of your guns. If they get smaller there is always some other vest wearing meathead ready to push you back to the pilates class.
  16. Agree with all the "not getting to big" sentiments. You don't support Aston Villa for the constant success and the winning. You support Aston Villa for the horror and the hope - because its real. Every high like last Sunday tempered by the depressing 3-0 away defeats at Stoke on a Wednesday night. It wouldn't be fun if Villa didn't serve up the odd kick in the balls every now and again.
  17. I'm not bothering with the TV show this time. I'll binge watch it on demand. I'm spoiled anyway and listen to the Cast of Kings and Storm of Spoilers Podcast so its not really a massive drama.
  18. with tickets being touted on the web at £550 and upwards that is the least of your worries !! I'll get the tickets with my brother (I get mine free as his carer and we'll halves) If he goes as your carer aren't you both gratis? Nah he has to pay at a concession. You may have missed the joke here.........

  20. Very spoilery, so don't read either if haven't read books... Spoliery reply don't look...... blah blah Blah blah book spoiler, (technically we are discussing the show because it's how we expect the books to fit them). If you haven't got the jist of it by now you're not trying hard enough.

    Carles Gil

It was seriously the most stupid thing I've read on here in years. You think he isn't playing Gil in case he scores lots of goals and people say that it's only because of a master stroke signing by Lambert scoring lots of goals? A bit like Benteke you mean? I kinda know where he is coming from. We know Sherwood has a huge ego, an maybe he wants to prove he can do what a experienced manager like Lambert couldn't do, with the same players he had. Introducing Gil may make people think Gil has brought the winning formula, an im sure Sherwood wants 100% of the praise. I think this is being massively overthought. Sherwood's reputation hinges on one thing. Keep us in the league - he will pick a team based on who he thinks is most likely to deliver that and in Sherwood's opinion Gil is not the best option. Perhaps he doesn't track back enough given that the team now push forward in numbers. Perhaps he doesn't perform in training. Perhaps Sherwood has had the revolutionary idea that Grealish and N'Zogbia are better options at number 10. I personally don't give a stuff if GIl never plays for us again, so long as we stay in the PL and give Arsenal a bloody good go in the FA Cup - I'm not really sure where the idea that Gil is the answer to all our problems has come from.
