Wow! Now that is a surprise - considering an Evoque new has got to be £20k more expensive that a new Mini. If people are selecting on the driveability factor thats very promising as well - the Mini is brilliant to drive. An absolute scream. Its not for me (as I'm sure you've got by now) but fair play - hope it sells shit loads because JLR are a fab brand.

Land rover and Range Rover are both part of the same company (as is Jaguar). The Range Rover brand is the more luxurious end of the market with Land Rover more focussed on function but obviously with a high level of comfort. The key differnce can be seen when you compare the Land Rover Discovery and the Range Rover Sport. Both fundamentally the same car underneath, one has just been blinged up to charge more money. "Evoque" actually started its life out as a Land Rover (see LRX concept car) and in its early development it was always a Land Rover. Later on it was decided that it could slot into a higher market position by rebranding it as Range Rover and increasing the quality of the trim etc. yep. There were substitution worries as well. As in, if it was priced around the same as a freelander, why would you buy an Evoque? Much in the same way Golfs these days aren't made as fancy as they could be, because they worry people wouldn't buy Audi A3s if they were. Fixed.

well it would drive better than your golf and do the same job as your other 4x4 so 1 car instead of 2 :-) Cant see that the Pony Club mob abandonning the bigger 4x4s for an Evoque with sport seats tbh. Whats the towing capacity? Anyone know? Steveo?

eh? Well thats the point isn't it? I want to buy into a luxury brand but haven't got the cash so I'll but its fugly little brother. A top spec Evoque is more than a decent Sport. Why would anyone do that? Same with Boxster drivers. **** off and buy a 911. Isnt that why different models exist though? Isnt the Freelander the same thing? You wouldnt buy one if could afford a RR. The Evoque and the Range Rover SPort are completely different cars. it's like saying "the only point of buying a Ford Focus is to advertise the fact you can't afford a Mondeo" They're different cars. If you (Eames) were talking about the Range Rover Sport vs the Range Rover, I'd understand, because even though there are obvious differences, they are very similar. Similarly with the Boxster comparison. but the Evoque is totally different from the other Range Rovers. You're comparing Apples with Pears Yes it's a lower price than the others, that's intentional. If we introduced it at the same price as a Sport, then we'd have substitute buyers rather than new buyers, which is exactly what we didn't want (incidentally that's why it was rebranded from a Land Rover in the first place). Same reason it's not as big as a Range Rover (or a disco or a freelander). it's filling a gap in the product range. if it was as practical as a freelander, then people would buy a freelander. If it was as luxurious as a Range Rover, then people would buy a Range Rover. Incidentally, if I had the money for a Sport, i'd save some and buy an Evoque. And I imagine a lot of other people woudl too. I suppose really I can't see the point of the Evoque, or the need for its existance. Much like the Nissan Qashqai and other cars of their ilk. I have a 4x4 because I need a 4x4, it pulls Mrs E's horses around and is great for filling with horsey supplies and general crap. If we take Princess E, out, or go anywhere as a family, we take the Golf, because (despite a much lower spec level) it drives better, is more comfortable, more economical, higher MCAP safety rating IIRC, but still hugely practical. I just can't see why you would need and Evoque and what they are for? (EDIT that said - I said the same thing about the iPad until Mrs E bought one. Now wouldn't be without it so if the Evoque wasn't so bloody ugly, maybe I'd have one :?)

Surely you mean "ruined" Although I did like the one that Holland & Holland had got hold of that was featured on Top Gear. With the gun cabinet and bar in the back.
  6. Ah but ingram, lerner inherited his money and mcleish is an ex bluenose ginger word removed. I believe this trump any argument you care to make.
  7. As long as my loincloth is not checked and I don't have black socks I'm down with that. Just leave off the Macron man, it might look like a small child trying to escape my pants.....
  8. Ha ha, Just went to look and yes, you have let yourself down, your family and basically anyone who knows you They jumped all over that and someone really did not like it. Brilliant. I am almost turned on by that. Well played sir. Now that onlyone and NIDNLT has bitten so beautifully can you confirm that you will release them, or just pop them into the bucket? 10. And how has his "awfulness" been proven? :? Erm..relegating a Premiership side 2 times within 3 years. He had far better resources than some last season and still relegated Birmingham via his curmudgeon shite antifootball mismanagement with his own shaped most boring side possibly ever to play in the topflight. Hes a proven failure in 'Premeirship experience' terms. Hes a terrible manager and should be nowhere near a Premiership side. Hed be on the dole now if it wasn't for our utterly stupid board. Lets be serious for a minute. SHA are NOT a PL side they are Championship shite at best. They are at their level. He also won a trophy with them last year did he not? How many trophies did St. Martin win with FAR greater resources at his disposal? As for him being a "terrible manager" didn't he also promote that shower of shit from down the road. This will at least put him on a par with Hughton who many here seem to abuse themselves over on a regular basis. "curmudgeon shite anti-football" - Seriously? Do you actuall watch our games? Do you not see him screaming at the players to get the ball on the floor, pass it and get forward? No? Should've gone to Specsavers then mate. He's 24 games into the job, playing with a team who apart from N'Zogbia, Hutton and Stevens are not "his" players. The real reason you appear to be so blinded with hatred for McLeish is that he used to manage that bullshit down the road. As with the rest of you who brand anyone with a modicum of patience or positivity "McLeish apologists" I didn't want him. No one did. But he's here, and he's staying. The faster some of you lot get over yourselves the better. If we all got behind the team AND the manager and stopped behaving like spoilt little children I'd bet my house that things at VP will improve a damn sight faster.

Oh, and I'm not down on JLR at all. I love both brands and would happily never buy another car again if it were at all practical. In fact I'm currently weighing up the possibility of selling my Golf to enable me to buy my dream Landy. An Old T reg.... (XXX 765 T) Green Defender 90 pick up with canvas back front and rear winches and white wheels. :firefox:

Agreed. And on the Victoria Beckham point, which is who i assume Eames was referring to, that has everythign to do with marketing and nothing to do with design (although she did have input into the design) In this country, we may feel she's a "brainless stick insect",. But as Tv and I mentioned, our focus is on the far east. It's where we're making all our profits and it's where we're focusing on gorwing so we can grow as a company. And regardless of what we think, over there they love the beckhams, so having Victoria beckham's name anywhere near the car is a massive selling point for them. I'm sure it will sell bucketloads but doesn't change the basic fact that it is one ****-ugly vehicle. Popularity has never been a measure of aesthetic appeal...... after all, 18,000 inbreds visit the Sty twice a week.

would you buy a Evoque though :winkold: I took our Freelander in for a service...... got driven to work in an Evoque. Its ugly Its really small It has pointlessly massive wheels. Why the **** does it need sport seats? Surely the only point of buying such a revolting car is to advertise the fact you can't afford a RRSport or Vogue. Or that you are interested in the fact the design consultant is a brainless stick-insect. For the same money you can have your pick of the much better Freelander range and it will be vaguley practical. Yuk

Clarkson has a major downer on BeeEm since they tried to ban him from having press demonstrators. He constantly slags off anything that isn't an M3 or and M5.
  16. Well you know what they say; People who make "Showgirls" shouldn't throw bricks. Another "so bad its good classic"
  17. it is ... and yet it's also superb it was on itv the other week and I stayed up until 2am watching it even though I've seen it dozens of times ( t'was one of the first dvd's i ever brought , it's that old (though new in terms of where it sits in the history of DVD ) that is is a "flipper" ) This. It sits squarly on the "So bad its good" end of the cinematic continuum.
  18. Pearce will sort the friendlies out and then hand the whole shebang over to 'Arry in May at the end of the season. It'll then be 'Arry's job. Mourinho into Spuds with a massive transfer budget seeing as how Spuds have spent **** all for 2 transfer windows now.
  19. With her massive arse I can see why he's with you now.....
