The crazy thing is that the total deal with ESPN until 2016/17 with Scottish Football is only worth £80m. To contextualise Villa recieved £42m for this season endeavours in the PL.
Celtics CL campaign would have been worth 8m Euros (2.1m for qualifier, 3.9m for group stage, 3 draws @ 400k and 1 win @800k.) So its not worth THAT much to Celtic in the context of 16 home games a season, including 4 guaranteed sell outs against Rangers, plus cup games etc either.
Basically, the sums in Scottish football don't add up at all.
