And in the first game of that season 91/92 we played Sheffield Wednesday (BFR having just left them). SW fans really laid into BFR as a "Judas". He bought in nine new players, 6 made their debut. We were 2-0 down till the 42nd, the SW fans were having a field day and we were playing like a bunch of misfits. Then Cyrille Regis pulled one back just before the end of the half. In the 2nd we played out of our skins with Paul Mortimer equalising and Dalian Atkinson getting the winner. So 3 of our new players scored!! Great game! Would accept same result against Bournemouth!! Wouldn't be great for the nerves though!

Can't be any worse than last season (as a whole). I am not questioning the quality of the new players and am quite excited by some of them. My point is whether they can function as a team after so little time together. I don't know of any PL team that has ever started with 5-7 new players from the off - do you?

I think picking the starting 11 is going to be a really hard call. With just 8 days to go till the Bournemouth game can Sherwood put out a team featuring 5-7 new players as many suggest, who will have played very little together?

That the "Randy Lerner" thread hadn't had a post since 11th June, till I bumped it, and was half way down the the third page of topics speaks volumes. Whatever the arguments for and against our "Custodian" he is to all intents and purposes now irrelevant to the fans. Sadly It looks like we are stuck with him for the foreseeable future and from a PL perspective AVFC is destined to be as irrelevant as he has become :-( No Future ... Proud Past and all that bollox!

We are Aston Villa the feeder club..... Sadly that is now our lot.

Frankly I am surprised that there is so little discontent. Some ok signings but not enough to suggest to me we are going to be any better than last season. Without Benteke up front I cannot see where the goals are going to come from. As always we will be scratting round at the last minute or end up bringing in the likes of Adebayor. Hopefully Sherwood will pull out a few surprises but I see only a few reasons to be cheerful at the moment and more other reasons to be concerned.

Hope he does well, but from what I can remember of him, he looks ungainly. I very much doubt he is our answer to Benteke leaving

Amazing, a possible turning point and hopefully indicative of better times ahead for AVFC. It is very unusual for us to keep hold of a quality player when one the SKY 4 coming sniffing around. Either he didn't like the offer, has been told that big changes are ahead or is one of the very few players that is not purely motivated by the filthy lucre. Whichever it is, I am suddenly a bit more positive again about next season. Fabian Delph! Doo do doo doo do Fabian Delph! Doo do do dooo!

Would anyone believe he might be off to Small Heath

I haven't gone through the whole of this thread but have found little mention of Tony Parkes, our "Goalkeeping Coach". Sitting not far from the dug out he strikes me as another Culverhouse; very vocal, loud mouthed, aggressive etc and I have notice how a number of players in midfield and defence seem to ignore him. If he is "Goalkeeping Coach" why is he the main mouthpiece from the line and is he supposed to be any good? I am not for treating the players with kid gloves but the big gob style didn't work when we had Culverhouse and I very much doubt Parkes will be any better. He was at it constantly during the final and it didn't make a blind bit of difference.
