  1. Lerner is ultimately responsible and we really don't need this clearing in the woods to tell us that. People who live is glasshouses like Collymore shouldn't throw stones (or should i say hit women) - I cannot understand why any Villa fan who remembers his time us even listens to him.
  2. Exactly I dont understand why you can tell by his tone of voice he cares and is passionate. So annoying when fans slate him and others ex villians like yorke Really? As I have said on another post, Collymore was absolutely shite for us and far from passionate as a player. Are you aware of what he was like when he played for us?
  3. Yes you can actually. He didn't show that passion when he played for us. People today have either forgotten or don't know what he was like. A then club record signing by Brian Little, he amassed the grand total of 15 goals in three seasons and three of those were in a Euro game. He was a lazy git and more likely to hit women than the net during his time at Villa. Of course it was all the fault of his "depression" which didn't stop him pissing off on holiday when he felt like it. I am sure Brian Little wishes he had turned up and shown some of his much claimed passion for Villa. I think he ruined Brian Littles' time as manager for us. Can't stand the bloke.
  4. Garde is a perfect fit IMO for Villa. I cannot remember the last time we had an intelligent and tactically astute manager. He had been touted as Wengers eventual replacement and was loved at Lyon where they considered him to be their equivalent of Pep Guardiola. If he joins us, he as much chance of saving us as anyone. OK he may not be able to avoid relegation (I am not certain if anyone could) but I am confident that this guy could help Villa rise from the ashes. For too long with notable exceptions over 20 years ago, we have "made do" with managers who either had no pedigree, maybe a good couple of seasons elsewhere or in Sherwoods case 25% of a season. We have undoubtedly had our moments with managers but a looking back to Graham Taylor first time round it shows that we have got progressively worse in picking managers Sherwood - was probably the most tactically inept manager we ever had but sounded good and talked himself into the job. Lambert - he did well at Norwich in the Champsionship but was he ever cut out to be a PL manager at a club that was in dire financial straits? His constant reference to "the project" illustrated that he role first and foremost was to cut the wage bill and make do with lower league players. From time to time he had good spells albeit very brief, but as we got deeper into trouble his tactics were all over the place. McLeish - like everyone else I could never fathom why we went anywhere near him. Probably the most boring and negative manager we ever had. He did nothing at sha and managed to get them relegated - his reward? The managers job at Villa - incredible! MON - I will not deny that I was excited by his appointment and for a while it looked like we were going somewhere. But then it started to unravel as he loaded us with journeymen on high wages, had no depth in the squad and injuries took their toll. He was reputed to be a good man manager and had flashes of inspiration but tactics were not his strength and his legacy left us in a mess. He didn't build for the future and when the money ran out he ran away leaving us with lots of overpaid players. O'Leary - All mouth and no trousers - he was never going to make it as a PL manager and was another one whose profile got him into the job. An egotist in the extreme he thought his career at Arsenal made him natural management material. He hadn't got a clue. Graham Taylor (2nd time round) - his appointment was an act of desperation by Ellis - second time round he had lost the plot. John Gregory - another manager that I liked as a person, Villa through and through. But his football was dour and relationship with Ellis meant it was never going to end well. Signed some good players and had he been able to get another couple I think his reign would have been longer. His biggest mistake was undervaluing and not signing Robbie Keane. Brian Little - loved Brian as a player - one of my few real heroes. IMO he had the makings of a great Villa manager. When he joined he saved us from relegation and start to build a new squad that did extremely well achieving our two highest finishes in the PL in the last 20 years - 4th/5th while also winning the League Cup. But his big mistake was buying Collymore who in turn let him down badly. No idea why he left but think Collymores signing was his undoing and that Ellis was to blame in someway. Ron Atkinson - Big personality that managed to put together a hard working team with tremendous spirit that came second to Man United in the first season of the PL. But for the seven minutes extra time that Man United were given at Sheffield Wednesday he may have well won the PL for us. How different might things have then panned out for the future of our club. However his ageing squad and relationship with Ellis meant it was never going to end well. Joe Venglos - Our first "foreign" manager. Joe arrived after formerly managing Czechoslovakia to the quarter finals of the World Cup. A weird appointment by Ellis, Joe never managed to get us going and we finished two positions off the relegation zone. And he was off Graham Taylor - First time round he was a great manager. In his first season he helped us get back into division one, struggled as he rebuilt in his second but in his third almost won Division one finishing second to Liverpool after often leading the league playing great football. Then England came calling and he was off. In my opinion, we have had enough of dross managers and need someone who is intelligent and can change our clubs direction - Garde if he joins us could be the one to it. Moyes, Rogers, Pearson and many of the others named offer nothing for the future beyond surviving as a second rate PL team.
  5. A "disastrous appointment" based on what exactly? Have you read anything about him?
  6. Garde played for Arsenal between 1996-99 and more than likely also speaks fluent English. The former Arsenal defender Adrian Clarke said in 2011 in the Independent of Garde that he was very influential at the time and that "It was almost as if he was there to teach the rest of us what Wenger wanted in terms of his passing, movement and attitude" and "..when the old guard were sceptical about Wenger and his methods he was almost a link between them and the new gaffer." Having someone that can speak French and English will be a bonus with our current squad.
  7. All is not well in the villa GARDEn . Hope this changing of the garde works for us i beg your pardon, never promised you a rose garden :-)
  8. Where/when did you hear this? He was at Lyon with Garde. I have French sources.... On twitter Thanks. That also reinforces the idea that Garde is about to sign.
  9. Yes I think its massive gamble if he is the one, no experience, wanted a year off football because he wanted to give his family a break from football. The Premier League is going to be a lot more stressful than the French league. A lot of you were all exited about these French signings and look how that has turned out so far. Theres a lot more wrong with Villa than just the manager. Frankly any of the names IMO is a gamble given our precarious position. As for the French players, in fairness, they must have not known whether they are coming or going with Sherwoods selections and tactics. I believe many of them are very talented and we are yet to see their true ability.
  10. Where/when did you hear this? He was at Lyon with Garde.
  11. it is also worth noting that he achieved this despite losing the likes of Hugo Lloris and Anthony Martial. An article I read described him as Lyons Pep Guardiola and that managing Lyon "wasn't a job, it was an obsession" for him. IMHO this guy could be our "special one"
  12. Journalist Guy Stéphane Canal + announced Sunday afternoon on the air that Remi Garde, who is currently a consultant for the French channel, is in pole position to succeed Tim Sherwood
  13. I can. We won't have just sacked Sherwood and then begun to think about who is going to replace him. This process will have been going on for some time-As was the case with both Liverpool and Sunderland recently. Teams don't make rash decisions without knowing what they'll do next. i'm sure we have been but what does that matter? We could have been thinking about mourinho for weeks but doesn't mean he would want to come. I think there is a very good chance that something is happening. The fact that the press in France have got wind of it points to that as well. We won't just have been "thinking" about the next manager, contact will have been made to gauge the other parties interest. As I have said, I think we tried to get him before Fox>Wenger>Garde but he turned us down because he left Lyon at the end of 13/14 saying he was taking a year off to be with his family. That year was up at the end of 14/15 . If true it would explain why this could be happening quickly.
  14. Why? Doing a good job for a CL team is not necessarily evidence that he could make it in the PL.
  15. 'En Garde' i feel it in my water. This is going to happen. For those that know little about Remi Garde, here is an article from fourfourtwo in January extolling his virtues http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/why-arsene-wengers-protege-would-be-perfect-man-rejuvenate-newcastle#:NXOk6JyzEMZGhA
  16. See my posts below from Ferbuary regarding Remi Garde before we signed Sherwood. I believe we tried to sign him before but for whatever reason he turned us down and that Sherwood was second choice. I would be absolutely delighted if this guy became our manager. Posted 12 February · Report post Would Garde come to us? I mean, he ticks all the boxes, for sure, but he's got 14 games left of the season over there and winning the league would be absolutely huge. Would he leave that for us? Another link is "Houllier" and despite what happened subsequently, no one expected his appointment at Villa. Searching further I came up with the following discussing Garde's tactics - I think he would be perfect http://frenchfootballweekly.com/2013/04/28/olympique-lyonnais-the-tactical-debrief/
  17. I hoped the talk about Pearson was a joke. I am not so certain now.
  18. He had to go and thankfully they did it quickly. Now we have to depend again on the incompetent idiots who run our club to get it right. Unfortunately nothing will surprise me and the odds are against them getting it right.
  19. Even that is a bit of an exaggeration. We could still stay up although I admit it's looking very unlikely even at this early stage. But still, it's not like once we're down we're down forever. Some perspective is needed. "Perspective"? I have absolutely no interest. Relegation will be a disaster for our club. The way the club is being run I have little faith that we will return to the PL within a few seasons and even then we are back to square one. I have experienced relegation several times since the 60s and it is always devastating. If we go down this season I seriously believe we could be in the CL for 4-5 seasons if not longer.
  20. Is the club being wound up soon? Must've missed that one. go and wind someone else up pal It's a serious point though. Yes things are bad but to say "there is no light at the end of the tunnel" is just pure hyperbole. Sherwood has to go but whatever happens we are going DOWN. It is **** heartbreaking that the club has so badly run into the ground. Lerner our "custodian" should hang his **** head in shame! It took me four hours to get VP today for that shite and have just got home after another shite journey. Another 11 hours of my life totally wasted! We are at our lowest ebb in over 30 years and I cannot see any way we can stay up. These really are very dark days for Aston Villa and there is no light at the end of the tunnel :-( Is the club being wound up soon? Must've missed that one. go and wind someone else up pal It's a serious point though. Yes things are bad but to say "there is no light at the end of the tunnel" is just pure hyperbole. It is far from "hyperbole" in the context of our survival in the PL. We have the worst manager I have known since McNeill, will possibly be bottom tomorrow and need 36 points from a possible 84. Absolutely "no light at the end of the tunnel" with regard to our future in the PL

  23. I think Sherwood is definitely gone whether we beat Swansea or not.
