Yep. He is forced to drop deep to even get the ball then isn't in an area where he can cause damage. It's so frustrating because we have this deadly weapon and we're not using it correctly. However now we have him signed, Gerrard can build the team around him and the first step to that is the summer signings.

I was so willing for Coutinho to have a good game yesterday. Not for any reason other than himself. There was a moment in the second half when someone passed him the ball at head height. He was outjumped by a taller player and lost the header, as he would do. He then showed a sign of frustration and saying through body language "what am I supposed to do with that?". This is the point, unless he gets the ball, he cant do anything and we seem to be unable to get him into games. He isn't going to make lung bursting runs for through balls, he needs the ball to his feet. Even back to goal is fine as he's a magician at dancing around defenders and making space for himself. I'll say it again, if he's having a quiet game its because we're not getting him the ball. It's on the team. That said there were some sloppy passes from him yesterday but that's very rare from him.

17m for Coutinho with a 70% wage cut has to be the best bit of business this club has ever done, by a country mile too. Remember the people back in January who said he was just using us for a shop window to move on? If he does the business for us over the next few years and god forbid, wins a trophy, he will be a stone cold Villa legend and boy have we needed one of them in recent years.

An absolutely fantastic moment for this club. What a signing. I thought it was going to happen but certainly not before the season ended. A real statement of intent both in terms of the club and the player. I'm utterly thrilled with this news. It also means the Coutinho 23 shirt I bought in January wasnt a waste of money
